I would like to be taking pictures of an SUV250....as I customize it!

But for now I just have to be satisfied with the XP....

I have 400km on it, its only May and we have had some rain.....notice the flowers!

Bike looks real sharp!

Thanks for sharing the photos.

Thank YoU

I charged the battery on my outdated Nikon Coolpix995 and bought a new battery on Amazon....for $12.00 :D The battery works but has trouble holding a charge for long.

I have not used it in a while....thought the grounds looked good with everything blooming, thought might as well take some photos of the bike as well.

If I pull out the tripod I get real good with the camera, it can be opened up the apeture that is and can capture a reflection on a drop of water.

The camera has a macro feature that allows zooming with clarilty up to 2 inches. I used to raise tropical fish and sold them online for a while. If the apeture is opened up the camera captures details better, but cannot be moved while open or it blures, the tripod stabilizes it.

The 995 is an old digital SLR, an early version but still very very good. Big and clunky but sold for $800.00 new, I got mine used, they sell for nothing these days and a real good cheap camera. You can switch lens on the camera...like a 35mm, thats what makes it an SLR, or comparable to a digital SLR. It has or simulates the features of a 35mm camera.

I used it on auto mode for these, but tinkering with it, it has the ablity to take seriously outstanding photos.

That's a nice machine. I really like the muffler; that cone shape is apparently the best for high rpm power production. How does it sound?

That's a nice machine. I really like the muffler; that cone shape is apparently the best for high rpm power production. How does it sound?

It's very quite, it has some decal on the bike that states its below the decibel standards limit set by the government? People make comments about how quite the bike is.

It does not sound throaty or anything that I personally prefer....

There is a performance exhaust you can get for the bike, I have seen all kinds of postings on the net for it, but it to me does not look as good as the stock exhaust. Its stainless steel, the after market that is, it does not look as good to me. But they say that and changing the jets on the Mikuni carb opens the engine up more?

That and changing the sprocket gain high end....

Things I may eventually do..after I have had it for a while.

It is a decent bike, so far.

Thanks

That links says lakeview cemetary but it is not, lakeview has a dirt road though that I been on which is one of my places I like ridding. It also has all kinds of winding roads and hills.

There are few other places that one is about the best, its ten minutes from my house. It has long stretch of access road that’s packed dirt then leads into some looping trails some young guys with dirt bike carved out. Some wind through the woods as well.

So I have taken it in the dirt….and that little area is good to get accustomed to dirt. But then I need boots and off-road helmet and goggles. Before I roll it up into the truck and ride out to one of the many off-road course they have in Ohio. I was told we have more than any other state?

I do not live in the desert, I live in a concrete jungle…well not really.

Here is my road course, south park blvd is nice ride.

I took the XP200 to lunch today….

I live in an area called the Heights, its basically top of a bluff to the east of the city. The eastern half of Ohio is Appalachian foot hills, the further you go the more hilly it gets. The western half of the state is flat Indiana is very flat and Pennsylvania is hilly, they have mountains.

Anyway I headed down to the base of the bluff or ridge, they used to call it Turkey Ridge, back in the day and every once in a while a wild Turkey can be still spotted in the area.

The base of the bluff is an area called University Circle, it’s considered the cultural center of the city, it is a metropolitan city center in itself. It's a nice area. I like going there, its got some nice green spaces.

One of the institution in the circle is Case Western University, here are some pictures of a building on campus, its designed by architect named Gehry.

From there I headed towards the lake, I took what is called The Rockefeller Parkway and intended to take some more photos on the way but the traffic was way too bad to stop...another time.

I then got hungry and headed to downtown, thats the actual metro center and stopped at a mall called the Galleria, I was so hungry I just jumped the curb and parked in front. Everywhere is a parking spot for a Dual Sport.

LOL.... I love the Simpsons.

There was a man that held people hostage at gun point in the Gehry and when people saw the buiding on the news they thought that it had been blown up! Then they were like Oh....it's supposed to look like that.

Its named after Peter B. Lewis, the CEO of Progressive Insurance, he was arrested in Japan once for the possesion of Marijuana, it all makes sense....sort of.

I bought a 2008 in Jan 2010...it was only $1,699.00 then, it has 21x18 standard tires. But it sits high, with a 35" seat. The seat is comfortable.

The Zong sits lower, if you can find one its a good option, the Lifan GY-5 is good but also sits high.

I took the XP to a memorial day cookout, that was in Fairview Park, the other side of the county. When I ride across I usually go through the city, Cleveland/Cuyahoga County is an East/West city. So I like heading north to the lake before heading west.

I stopped at East Ninth, this is were the Rock-n-Roll Museum is and also Browns Stadium….

I headed west from the city along the lake front to Rocky River, which is a river that leads into the Metro Parks. This is the boat launches near the mouth of the river.
http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/yy126/oengus1963/CIeveland/015.jpg
I forgot my memory cards and could not take any more pictures. It's nice area the mouth of the river has a marina with some homes on the river and surrounding bluffs.
The river defines a part of the Metro Parks called Rocky River Reservation and is part of a large park system called the Emerald Necklace. It's a series of connected parks that ring the urban area, like a necklace.

I took the parkway to get to the party both Fairview Park and the Rocky River are on the Parkway, that being the park runs through both cities. I could not take pictures at the party…I ran out of storage, the old camera uses 16MB memory cards…I only brought one!

Nope, if a police officer saw me do that I would get a ticket or a warning. I look around first and then do not stay long. I stick the bike in alot of places I should not, I treat it like a ten speed, which I probably should not.

Yeah there were people with these plastic kayaks and it realy made me think about getting one.

I took them out and set them on the table, but never put them in my pocket.....it was a beautiful week, it rained on Monday though and some today. We had storms thunder and lighting and high winds and some flooding.

I have to take the XP in for it's first service it's at 900km now. I think maybe Thursday. I may tool around Lorain County and the Black River, thats Lorain/Elyria, Sandusky and the Islands, further west, would be fun....that could be something for later in the summer. I am working on a family vacation in that area it's a real nice area a big bay and a series of islands in the lake. They have ferries that take you from the bay to the islands. I'll get my parents to rent a place, then put the bike in the back of the pick-up....then everyone in the family will come....the real-estate is way cheap these days and my parents are talking about it being a good time to buy in that area. Something on the lake with dockage, they have boats.

The river is at the mouth, but it too shallow up stream, there is good canoeing in the Cuyahoga and the national park though, not in the Rocky River only at the mouth, it's dredged to the point of the boat launch then is very shallow after that. It's ideal for a jet ski though it leads to the lake and open water, then theres a beach at the mouth and another further west.

The fenced in area is for X-Sports they have skateboarding and host events in that area, I think City Halls solution to skateboarders? They I think banned them, then built an area for them. I am not fond of it, I think its lame.

I took a good long ride this weekend, from Shaker Heights to North Olmsted. I do not take the XP200 on the interstate, but I did take it on the Shoreway which has highway speeds, got up to around 50 mph and think that is about as fast as I want to go on the 200cc dual sport. Basically one stretch, from an on ramp to an exit ramp. The bike has yet to be fully opened up, it has 1200km on the odometer currently.

I took a southern route this time and should have taken some photos but I was running late. The route took me from the Heights through the Cuyahoga River Valley. There is a road named Granger, I was on that and it has a very steep grade, it was crazy going down it. I had thoughts of Chinese components the whole time, I stayed in 5th gear and only occasionally offered a little throttle. It seemed to take the bike beyond the engine speed and that seemed hard on the engine. So I gave it some throttle every so often. I thought if I pulled in the clutch I would take off, could get up to 80mph easy coasting?

Going from that location, that being a southern approach to the West, took me from the highest point to the lowest point in the county. I am just not used to that being born and raised in NEO, I am just not that accustomed to steep grades, they make me uncomfortable.

I took snap shots on the way home, my preferred route is northern through the city and along the lake.

Here are some shots I took, seem like the vibration of the bike makes my hands shake so none of the pictures are that clear, I basically vibrate after long rides.

Corner of St Clair and W6th Street, stopped for a coffee.

The XP is manufactured by Jinan QingQi and is for the most part a Suzuki DR200.

Qingqi has my permission to make a more utilitarian version of the model:

http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/yy126/oengus1963/DR200_1.jpg

Not exactly like the DF version pictured above, but a more utilitarian version of their model.
Round head light and round meters with a metal cage, less fairing and a good luggage rack.

The 250cc version is in the pipe but does little to differentiate itself from its lesser sibling.
The 250cc is also based on Suzuki technology and sports a 20hp engine.

Here is a photo of that model.
http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/yy126/oengus1963/250qq.jpg

Qlink’s web site has been broken for some time now, they may not even know that?
I noticed that there is no longer a link to the closeouts, but there is also no link for the BUY NOW? You can click on it but it will not place that item in the shopping cart? Wow how to loose business.

The 250cc is being tested….the rumor is or was when the 2008-2009 are all sold then when the 250cc is ready they will stock them.

Getting closer and tighter with dealers I would suggest and lowering the price on parts, please some are off the chart overpriced.

The DR200 variant should be expanded on and so should the 250cc line, they actually have a 250cc street version that is not bad and something I would seriously consider.

http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/yy126/oengus1963/QQSport.jpg

This is only a 125cc version, but it comes with a 200cc or the 250cc, the last two I would consider. Under $3,000.00 for a 250 and under $2,500.00 for a 200cc. The 250cc does not share the same frame as the others, but share the same design elements, just as the 200cc does not share the same frame as the comming 250 but they look the same.

The 250cc are larger frames, they have their own component parts, but they look consistent across models.

What is good is a 250cc with 20hp and from time tested proven Suzuki engine technology.

I am indifferent to the Qlink business model, one of its key suppliers is growing and expanding and they do not seem to be aligning on that. They are detracting from the brand name that they should be aligning on.

QingQi America should be the brand and it can and would endure, Qlink may not its on paper not rooted in actual real manufacturing. There are no motors in Qlink motors….they are in fact distributors. The best actually in their market and methods used, but what is behind them is actual manufactures and if not interconnected on the actual brand and names they could be replaced.

In realty it is not in Qingqi ’s best interest to build the brand of others, particularly if the brands are only that of a distributor. If the best at manufacturing then its that name that needs to be grown on that separate brand name and should not be associated with other brand names.

It’s not to say that one distributor cannot distribute multiple brands, in fact they should since the products are all within a limited market segment. In that manufacturers from china can only offer a sliver of their domestics lines in the US and collectively they can take shares of a segment of the US market and that is the 50cc-250cc motorcycle and scooter range. That’s a matter of variety pricing and branding is crucial, not creative brand names, but actual brand names that are the actual manufacturers brand names.

The best distributor would have facilities on both sides and function to fully define and track products. It's all about a pull system not a push system. That’s about availability and variety, it is also about very good systems to monitor and support products.

I have seen them with rack systems on that bike, and somebody should tell the a**bags at Qlink there is a market for these and to stop marking up the Chinese goods 200%!

I would say that claiming they are all about the low cost market and then marking up prices is a matter of talking out of both sides of their faces.

These for that bike should be less then $100.00 and come from suppliers in china. Why or would a person pay 15% of the price of the motorcycle for an accessory?

Maybe I am wrong but I think if it was offered on the Qlink site for under $2,500.00 it would sell.

I would think if they get shipments then adding a few of them would be worth it and just to measure the reaction.

What is the price of rice in china these days?

The XP200 is a good bike…it has tight gearing, I am getting used to that. it’s a good performer, better now that its worn in, it vibrates though on the high end.

It climbs really well and its really easy to handle. It’s good in the dirt, I am not a jumper, not that I do not like to catch air…its landing that concerns me it is hard on the bike and can also break me!

People ask me about it all the time, I tell them it’s Chinese Suzuki…what the Suzuki DR200 looks like in China.

I have not had one single problem with the bike…I have only had it about six month and only put 1200km on it. Its not technically worn in until 3000km and it shift smoother, it seems, every time I ride it.

I will be taking it on another long ride on Sunday…weather permitting.

I am getting very used to that little bike, it likes to be shifted quickly it has very short throws on that bike. I think it being more worn in and the oil change made big difference and I am fairly certain the rings are seated properly…the bike is now at 1600km and the last oil change was at around 875km and the oil is gold and clear and not dark and dirty. The bike also shift really well so it seems the oil is not breaking down or does not seem to be. I have not taken it over 50mph and its never been rev’d above 6000, it has good acceleration and overall seem like a good bike.

I've really been looking at one of these more and more....especially since they're road legal here.
I compared the specs of the Q XP and the DR 200 today and there's very little difference, chassis-wise and zero difference in motor specs.
The biggest difference is the Suzuki lists at 4199.00 and the Q for 2599.00.

Still very pricey for a China bike, but comparing to the Suzuki....it's a no-brainer.

I think Q does have their act together, by Chinabike standards. I don't know for sure but I think they have been in business the longest. God only knows what EPA criteria etc have to be met before importation, despite the bike is identical to the 250cc Suzuki.

I have not yet and may not make the changes to the bike, its now approaching 3000km and just wearing in. I have not decided if I will keep it 100% stock or not?

Lots of country roads…was a good chance to open the bike up some, it just had it's valve clearances adjusted and fresh oil…so why not? I hit 60 mph and with a little left, I think, probably not much more but it was not full throttle and the speedometer was at 60mph, the speedometer might be generous? It was fun, it was a near perfect day sunny and in the upper 60’s.

I only have had one problem with this bike, so far….a connection became loose on the gear shift indicator and neutral was holding on, the light that is, in first gear? Tightened that connection and it's fine now.

I am pleased with the bike 3000km and no problems.

I took a ride around with the camera….here are some shots and information on the locations.

This is an area called Playhouse Square…it is the theater district. This building was recently restored as an ongoing revitalization of what is called a the Euclid Avenue corridor. That corridor connects the City of Cleveland two Urban Centers those being Downtown and University Circle. The Entire street was taken out and it now has what is called a BRT or Bus Rapid Transit, the Buses are extra long articulated buses that run in the center of the road, they have dedicated lanes and stops on that are now in the center of the street. Island basically the street got all new street lights and landscaping, it looks very nice and catalyzed other projects on the street.

This is a section in downtown, it has flower beds but in this section the stops are on the curb, not in the center. It’s a dual hub and the center sections between the hubs have stops at what are basically small stations that are elevated. The end point have stops on the curbs.

Notice the sign IDEA….its the studio for PBS the local station is called Idea Stream. That’s East 15th going east you enter CSU campus and that area is exploding with projects. One of those is to move the college of performing arts to just next door to this building, it will share the space with another performing arts company The Cleveland Playhouse, which recently sold its building also on Euclid to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Which in case your unaware of it is the blueprint or model for a national healthcare system. it’s a clinic based system that has one major facility with geographically dispersed regional satellite facilties. They are all connected with one common information system. I will someday take some photos of the CCF’s main campus its huge they have 14,000 employees.

This area is called Cedar Fairmount, it is one of several commercial district in the city of Cleveland Heights, the others are Coventry and Cedar-Lee, they all are well maintained with things to do, theaters and restaurants and also many art galleries and service businesses.

Its been said that the Heights have the best housing stock in the nation….you would be amazed by that area and the diversity in architecture. The Terminal Tower was built by two brothers Van Sweringen’s they proceeded to build a rail line from the Terminal which is the central station downtown to the east and that area is Shaker Heights. It is the only really totally planned community in the nation for that era and the architecture is totally diverse. They actually did not allow any two homes to be of the same plan.

It not really a subway, it above ground most of it. This area is called shaker square, if you drag the icon of the little man on the street it gives you the street view…it like walking around the area.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=shaker+heights&sll=41.545332,-81.583099&sspn=0.100469,0.31929&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Shaker+Heights,+Cuyahoga,+Ohio&ll=41.483923,-81.592659&spn=0.003143,0.009978&t=h&z=17

Then Cleveland Heights was also built in that same era, that was all about the Rockefellers and the wealth of that time.

The Western Reserve was part of a Connecticut land bank…it was well thought out and planned. University Circle blows most people away….But next to it is East Cleveland and that city is literally rotting away and it’s a shame.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Forest+Hills+park,+Cleveland,+OH&sll=39.779915,-75.524654&sspn=0.025791,0.047121&ie=UTF8&hq=Forest+Hills+park&hnear=Forest+Hills+park,+Cleveland,+Cuyahoga,+Ohio +44108&ll=41.521431,-81.580353&spn=0.02352,0.079823&t=h&z=14

Forest Hills park was land that the Rockefellers donated to the city…..but to the north all ghetto, like I said it is a shame.

this is my my street...actually if the link works it shows my building in the top frame.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&sll=41.483558,-81.591162&sspn=0.003175,0.00589&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Shaker+Heights,+Cuyahoga,+Ohio&t=h&layer=xc&g=shaker+heights&ll=41.466431,-81.567521&spn=0.005692,0.039911&z=15&cbll=41.466419,-81.56753&panoid=NGaQLlEzARP7jUHrnMJsOw&cbp=11,198.47,,0,5

You can see the rail line runs centerline on my street, there is a train station on the corner. The compass like arrows allows you to change the view.

Yes, that was my point.

In Nelson, BC, there is the most beautiful Wal-Mart location anywhere; it's right at the foot of a mountain, across Kootenay lake. The irony is overwhelming.

I get it, the thing is in that area its all built, its all in good shape so very little gets torn down. Businesses use exiting historic storefronts. There are no McDonalds or Burger Kings in that city, there was one once in a storefront, but it pulled out the city would not allow them to tear it down and build a drive thru. It’s now a Thai restaurant. Something to consider…some cities have rows of abandoned and vacant store fronts, strip malls replaced them. But if there is no room for the strip malls and the built area has to much value to tear it down it all get better utilized. The small commercial districts in that area do very well, they are like mini cities or towns.

I think a wall-mart at the foot of a mountain is sort of a crime….should be a park or nature preserve?

In this area because we are such a huge water shed, I think OHIO is and Indian word for many rivers. They are now considering sewer bills based on impermeable surface area, so a wall mart and the giant parking lot would be charged on its roof and parking lot. Were does the water go? It goes into a combined system and all leads to a waste processing plant, if it rains hard it over flows into lakes and rivers. So they are attempting to handle that….retaining and absorbing it on site?

So if the land is managed better space is managed better, it could be all nice like that area? People love open space and move out to rural areas, then love it to death?

Considering I live in a city that once had over a million people living in it and now has less then 500,000 I wish they would clear some land and make some nature preserves.

Part of the reason I got the bike was to get pictures and access to area and write about what I see. We are an area in transition…I hope for something bigger and grander. Parks and man made lakes, consolidated urban centers, creative and vibrant.

I eventually will set up a website for it….

Well at about 5:30 the sun came out…so I got back on the bike. Most of the last postings were pictures from the Heights. So I went down the hill to get some shots of University Circle, but only some of it because it would take forever to cover all of it.

In this is some new construction and also some recent construction. Its a world renowned medical center. Two major players in that are University Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. They are both networks and have facilities all over the region.

University Hospital is on the campus of Case Western Reserve University. Here are some shots of it and the campus.

Yeah the white bikes are also nice....

Austin is very nice, much nicer then Cleveland ....do you spend time on the river?

I think about removing all the decals, also getting a solid black seat with no seams and adding the carrier to the back. But it looks good stock as it is, I want to head over to HMF and ask for a price on a performance exhaust...I really want one that looks near identical just without the restricted flow.

I will bring in the dimension and photos they already make one for the Honda Ruckus that looks very similar. I want it to look the same and have the same mounting points.

The current muffler is very quite which is good as the engine is wearing in, I can hear the valves and get a benchmark for the interval for adjusting them. Once I switch out the can, it will likely drown out the engine sounds?

I am not rushing to modify the bike....I have that luxury to look forward to and the results of that.

I still would like to hear somebody tell me just how the rpm change with a 16 tooth sprocket. Specifically that is....the bike hits 50mph at 5500rpm with a 15" what would it be then with a 16"?

I think that when the valves are ready to be adjusted again then that will include a new performance muffler and a 125 main and 35 slow jet and a 16" sprocket and maybe a chain tension-er? I am hoping that would be at 5000km and not sooner. That interval is related to the quality of metal isn't it? If it becomes too tappy happy to soon, I may not bother.

I am also wondering if the slight wapping sound I am hearing is from the secondary exhaust burning device that is on the bike. It is reed valve that redirects exhaust off the engine back to induction. It is vacuum controlled off the carb. I am not that keen on hot exhaust going back to the engine, it is to burn up hydrocarbons as in a secondary burn. But its heated and the device makes noise, wap wap wap and it also ugly on the side of the engine.

I listen to the valves, not obsessively, I like to hear them but not too loud, other noises distract me. Particularly if I know they are sending hot gases into the engine that wants cool clean air not hot dirty exhaust gas. That gas can go in the window of the car behind me that is to close? LOL

I am bad for the environment...I want to remove the devices... I feel conflicted.

I'd like to $hitcan the emissions crap but don't want to mess with a bike that runs perfectly.

As far as the gearing goes I regeared my XF as it was street only, and have thought long and hard about the XP but have decided NOT to because the gearing is spot on for the off road use I use the bike for. A 6th gear would be heaven, though.

it sounds like you have an EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve. Exhaust gas can't be burned again; it's introduced into the intake so that the air / fuel mixture can be diluted and use less fuel. The by-product of that desing is that a more aggressive timing curve is required, much like running high octane fuel in a low compression engine. As RPM increases, vacuum drops and the valve won't open. It's only designed to work at part throttle, where vacuum is the highest. It works great in theory.

However...

Oil loss past the rings is a natural part of internal combustion. That oil ends up in the exhaust and causes the EGR to become clogged. It will likely become stuck open at some point in the future, and the bike will run like poo at WOT.

If you delete it, you might find that you need to run premium fuel to thwart detonation, but that's a minor cost. Just make sure that you don't stay on the throttle if you detect the slightest hint of detonation. For the unfamiliar, detonation is that awful sound of rocks in a coffee can when you crack the throttle in a gear that's too high for the speed you're travelling.

I can try to solve your gear ratio vs. RPM question if you tell us the rear sprocket tooth count as well as the front.

That's what it looks like to me too.

I'd like to delete it, and upgrade the exhaust and rejet, but like I say it's hard to monkey with a bike that runs perfectly.

I think there is some confusion on what is burning and what is igniting, exhaust gas is not flammable but it can be burned. Passing exhaust off the engine back into to engine will expose it to combustion again and the results would be less compounds that are regulated in exhaust gas. Those gases cannot be ignited but they can be burned up.

The fuel set leaner to match the diluted air in the air to fuel mixture, that makes sense. Adding that exhaust to the mix would not increase combustion for sure, the opposite actually.

If that device fails the have to replace it for five years.

428 chain and sprockets 15 / 48 tooth maybe I have to check it may be 45?
I want it about 2.85 so 16/45 will do that, I just have to see what my rear sprocket is. Either way 45/48 adding a tooth to the front will improve it for street riding.

I’ve been looking into the EGR exhaust gas re-circulator. It actually lowers combustion temp by sending non-flammable exhaust gas back into the combustion chamber. It adds about 6-10% of the air component in the Air/fuel mix, it dilutes it. That keeps the combustion temperature down and in turn reduces the production of Nitrous Oxide formation that occurs over 2500 degrees.

Its actually integral and removing it would require some consideration. I thought its presence would heat the engine…now that I think about it that’s silly exhaust gas is under the combustion temp and in this case it is actually lowers the combustion temperature.

Then there is the CDI and its timing being set with consideration to the EGR being present. Removing the egr device will up the combustion temperatures and that would require consideration to the fuel enrichment and maybe the timing?

My bike has 15/48, so I need a 45 rear or a 16 inch front to get from 3.20 to 3.00, if I change both then 16/45 will get 2.81.

I think a 16" front and a performance exhaust, main jet from 122.5 up to 125 and slow jet from 32 to 35.

I will not take off the EGR, now that I know how it works. Thank Weldngrind for giving the device an actual name.

I do not think I will get into any trouble doing this….is there potential problems for me doing a performance exhaust and increasing the jets?

I think mine is noisy, I can tell when its open and when it trying to close, it makes a wapping sound.

**************************************

That little device gave me a headache, that being trying to figure out what it is and what it is supposed to be doing. I am nearly positive it is not an EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) simply because its components (parts) could not handle the exhaust temperatures. I also checked it while ridding today and it does not heat up it would if it was sending exhaust back into the air box.

It could be what is called a PAIR and actually does send air into the engine directly. It’s an emissions device that’s for sure. However it is not likely to be an EGR.

Notice how none committed I am now….google it if you want to know what it does.

Nice photography and some really nice neighborhoods. Looks like a great place for the street side of our little 200cc dualsports.

The closest city to me is Spokane, about 125 miles to the north. Portland and Seattle are both 200 miles away.

Walla Walla, a small college town 60 miles east of here has a similar look, but only for a few blocks.

I sure am country out here, thats for sure.

The area where I live, the Tri-Cities (Kennewick, Richland, Pasco) have about 200,000 people but there is no real cohesive, planned downtown area per se.

I miss that.

That Campus is evolving…its fascinating to me because they are doing such a nice job creating people friendly spaces. It could be that the University has a college of Urban Planning it may help with that, they makes spaces that make you want to hang around. That section is just one they also have another side that is going into construction soon. That will be very big and they will be removing parking lots add housing and retail spaces, they will offset the parking with multilevel garages.

This is all part of the Euclid corridor, downtown, midtown and uptown, talking about cohesive, that area if fully developed is fairly large.

See map:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=cleveland&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Cleveland,+Cuyahoga,+Ohio&gl=us&ei=3cyxTKfWNIj-ngfu8rzuBQ&ved=0CCQQ8gEwAA&ll=41.517575,-81.665154&spn=0.100512,0.31929&z=12

Part of state route 322.…It is about 4 miles from Downtown to Uptown.

The University is just west of the Innerbelt Freeway, it is trenched through the campus. That whole section of freeway is getting redesigned. The bridge that crosses the river replaced and all the ramps an the surrounding areas getting redone. Its a $200M bridge the whole project will be in the billions, that’s federal stimulus dollars. The bridge got the fast track for that money, its beginning already, crazy and called a build design process, as in all at once.

In the city they are redeveloping the exiting convention center $500M

It slowly transitioning from a manufacturing city to a service city….healthcare and education. Then they are also developing arts and entertainment. The goal is 30,000 living in the urban center, they I believe have about 10,000 people currently living downtown. They have numerous housing development plans, from converted older buildings to new condominiums. Any new construction in the city that is owner occupied is property tax abated for 15 years and gets a 1% interest rate discount on the mortgage.

Since the bubble popped it all slowed and nearly stopped, it is now moving again.

http://www.uptowncleveland.com/

This project is really fascinating and will really bring some people right into the circle to live. It is huge and incorporate a train station retail housing and a museum and all in an area saturated with culture.

I earlier posted pictures of an area called Cedar and Fairmount, Cedar begins at East 21st street downtown near the CSU campus, about a block south of it. That street then runs east to Gates Mills and the Chagrin River Road.

So the earlier pictures were at Cedar and Fairmount, traveling east from there you hit Cedar and Lee and then University Square which is at Cedar and Warrensville Center Road. These pictures are of the next area….I did not post any pictures of the other two areas only Cedar and Fairmount.

This is Cedar and Richmond,

Cedar is less then 15 miles in length, the part before it hits the bluff and rises into the Heights is very blighted. That length is about 3 miles and some things are going in that area, most of that is on the south side of the CCF campus. The Cleveland Clinic is expanding and it now is reaching that area and clearing and building there.

I usually go someplace were I can get a cup of coffee or a burger and a beer usually a Great Lakes Dortmunder, that’s my favorite beer.

It’s a Moto Guzzi, it is a 1959 GT235
Gran Turismo Ladola…not mine a friend bought it and is storing it at my place.

It is going in for some work….I fixed the brake cable and that’s about all I can do for him other then store it and ride it  runs good but is leaking oil. It has huge oil reserve 2 liters or something like that twice as much as a typical engine.

That’s also not the actual bike…the actual bike has a single seat? No passenger part, guess you would say.
It is red though and identical to the bike in the picture.

I was asked to research it for him…go figure? I found him some resources and good mechanic….I will also transport it for him.

For ridding privileges….

I will have some photos of it this summer he and I are both anxious to take it out and about around town….The little bike will have a photo shoot in the Chagrin River Valley this summer for sure.

Evidently the bike was the last bike model designed by Carlos Guzzi before he died it is a 235cc OHV single, the bike also came with a 175cc OHC.

I sort of wish that this site supported <A HREF="http://www.practicalecommerce.com/articles/2514-How-to-Embed-Photos-and-Slideshows-from-Picasa-Flickr-and-Photobucket

It is too bad this site does not support video streaming or slide shows, even creating a hyper link or an image requires the use of some html.

Hi Tim, thanks
The weather has been very good lately. I am familiar with Mohican, I have been cannoning there a few times.
I still have the XP200 just turned 3600km on the odometer (only put on 1000 this season) still no problem with it.
The Ladola (red bike) had some issues, they had trouble sourcing parts for it, all of the part had to come from either Europe or South America.

I will try to post some more pictures soon…

Did an oil change…took a ride around and ended up putting 100km on the little bike.

I took some snap shots of various places I visited, it was a beautiful day.

I resisted any urges to take photos of the 5 billion dollars of construction going on in the city. Seriously everything from casinos, bridges, office complexes, museums, conventions centers…blah blah blah. I will wait till they are all completed and then post some pictures.

I made it to the Lake Front, there is some development there a project called Battery Park. Cleveland’s Lakefront is cut off by a set of commercial rail lines and a 50 mph expressway called the Shoreway. Battery Park is a development at what was once an Eveready Battery plant and now it is housing. They demolished factory and conducted remediation of the site, they did retain the old power plant and it now is a community center, I noticed it had Wine Bar.

The area is called Detroit Shoreway it also has a Theater District, which they have been developing. I think the correct term for the area is transitional.

Battery Park:
They are renovating a tunnel that connects the residential neighborhood with the Lake Front Park (Edgewater Park), it is part done.

Here are some of the homes they built and also the Power Plant as well as an old store front that is restaurant and its patio. The large building is an adjacent building, I think it would make great lofts.

Before I made it to the Lake Front I stopped in an area called Little Italy, this area is next to University Circle. The base of the Bluff leading up to the Heights, it is also called Murray Hill.

I also visited part of the Cleveland Metro Park, this area is called Big Creek Reservation its a tributary to the Cuyahoga, as it flows it passes through the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. It connect to the Cuyahoga River between a Steel Mill and a Aluminum Forging facility. One of these days I will get into the industrial heart of the city and take some photos of that. They are working on recovering the creek in parts, it is actually very clean at this park. It cuts through a ravine shale cliffs and mature trees all around it. It has really nice trails that wind through it, very wooded.

Wow, thanks for the great pics! I especailly like the old power plant and the new housing around it. In my area, they re-purposed an old mill and created office space, because the cell tower contracts on the roof prevented demolition of the structure. It's a much nicer area now.

I can clearly see why Drew Carey says that Cleveland rocks! 8)

These are some shots of that section of Euclid Ave, what is built and what is being built.

The guy that bought the Moto Guzzi called me, he asked if I would come over and help him put his plates on his bike. He bought some 1959 plates for the bike and they are actually red and white. I thought it be a good chance to take it for a ride. But when I got on it the clutch was not engaging…he had surgery on his knee and only got to ride it once, I still have not gotten to ride it or even go ridding with him.

It is a cool looking bike but way to small for me, and it seems really uncomfortable to ride. I personally think the bike belongs in museum.

That is a beautiful machine. When you say the clutch won't engage, does that mean that the bike won't move forward?

Oengus

Its running and with the clutch pulled, but any attempt to put it in gear gets gears hitting, I think the cable slipped.

It sounds like the clutch won't disengage. I had an old Yamaha like that, and I had to let it warm up for awhile to make the old clutch plates un-stick from each other. Sometimes that wouldn't help, so I'd kick it into second with the clutch in, which usually freed up the plates.

That bike is odd, it has the shifter on the right side and it is the opposite pattern as its one up and three down.

I will let him know what you said, come to think of it that day we did not warm it up for very long. But he also had issues with the cable the end was rigged by a mechanic, that may be what is happening even though he is pulling it, its just not disengaging enough, it may have slipped. You cannot see the linkage or the termination of the cable on that bikes it all is covered with a housing cover that has to be removed.

First time I got on it, I pulled the cultch and the cable snapped, the second time it just would not disengage. The bike has been ridden by the mechanic and also the owner , neither had problems with the clutch other then the cable, that they kind of sort of fixed.

Its dangerous I think, he needs to get that fixed and the mechanic he used is now off his list, he is trying to find a better mechanic. He bought a rebuilt carburetor for it, that and a few other things he wants done to the bike…but he cannot seem to find a mechanic or he is not looking hard enough.

I found the first guy, they only work on vintage bikes mostly old Triumphs. But we found out that the original mechanic retired and his partner took over…I think the second guy is running off the previous guys reputation? He had the bike in his shop for over a month…he got stuck on the carb slider being slightly warped….that brought about the purchase of a rebuilt one from a supplier in Italy…but the owner does not feel he wants this mechanic to do the work. The mechanic did not locate the carb source…the owner did. Not that it matters but what he really wants is somebody that is not going to coble the fixes. The cable should have been fixed right…its bit of a saga.

I am pretty sure the cable is not repairable, they need to take it off and send it to somebody to make one, they braided and soldered the ends. It’s a very stiff clutch, it just pulled off or is slipping off.

I think that is why he does not want that mechanic, he also thought it would be simple to fix.

The bike is a little rough, pictures make it look better then it really is, however, it really is a collectors item, it needs a professional restoration IMO.

He paid 5K and a fully restored version could fetch 7-8K at an auction. If he would have asked me I would have said do not buy it…I think it needs about 2K to restore it. .

Keep in mind it is a 1959.…I personally think it is not a good choice for just ridding around on. It should be in a museum or on display in a dealer showroom.
