Just got back from Red Rive New Mex. last night and decided to share some pics with yall. My only regret is, I should've mounted a vid cam on my Polaris and taken more stills. We only got to ride one trail while we were there because of rain, but we plan on going back before fall so maybe I'll remember to strap the cam on my front rack. The trail is Goose Lake Trail. The 8mi. trail starts at 10350ft and ends at a natural lake at close to 12000ft elev.
This is at the parking area at the top just a short hike to the lake. http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz64/JimW_photos/101_1058.jpg
A Pic of the lake. http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz64/JimW_photos/101_1062.jpg
Here's a my daughter and son in law gathering thier senses after the rough and rocky ride up. It was steep and pretty rocky. Some of the rocks were wet and slippery which tested both nerves and machines. http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz64/JimW_photos/101_1060.jpg Another pic of the lake with the mountain wall in the background. http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz64/JimW_photos/101_1063.jpg The next pic doesn't do justice to what we saw but still worth looking at. It's a look off the edge of the trail looking down. Couldn't see the bottom of the drop because of the trees but I would guess no less than 350ft. Enough to cause alot of broken bones either way. http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz64/JimW_photos/101_1088.jpgThe next pic is an old miners cabin and the widest place on the trail which made a good place to kick back for a bit. http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz64/JimW_photos/101_1077.jpg Here's an old mine shaft. Couldn't stop for long because the trail wasn't wide enough for passing traffic. Besides, they've had a few bear attacks in the area and none of us were to eager to poke around the mine much. http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz64/JimW_photos/101_1082.jpg Another old mine looking up from the trail http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz64/JimW_photos/101_1055.jpg The 16mi round trip took just a little over 4hrs to complete. All 4 machines ran good considering they all came from 2700ft elev. The only problems were at idle they had a tendency to die from the thin air. It was beautiful country and well worth hauling them for. We had 3 other trails picked to ride but mother nature wasn't going to allow it this trip.
