I got tired of waiting for big bore china bike. So I'm going to buy a new klr650 on sale and trade-in my American Lifan LF200. I figure my bike with only 3500 miles has a street value of $1000. How much do you think the kawisaki dealer will give me for trade in?

I hate to say but I'd guess next to nothing if they take it at all. I'd sell it privatly and expect around $500.

Sorry.

BTW AWESOME choice on the Killer. I've owned 2 and would not mind selling my Yamaha if I could get a good price and put it towards a newer but used KLR.

list in craigslist, and get the new bike with cash or whatever.. then when the old bike sells you have money for upgrades or to just put towards the balance due

Just came back from the Kawi dealer. They don't want to have anything to do with my Lifan. On a more positive note, a guy there with a Buell says my Lifan is cool and he heard a lot of good things about it. Looks like China bike reputation is getting better.

Perhaps even better than Buell's. :P

Consider it a blessing in disguise. Get some good pics of it and post it up forsale here and locally on Craigslist. You will do better if you can sell it as an individual.

And what about the Hibird? Still have it?

Hey Mizke, still wanna street bike?

well yes but 2 reasons why i cant buy it..

1) in a bidding war on a cr250r honda motor for my quad
2) im going to get a dirtbike and learn to ride bikes with that before going to a street bike. so i can learn on nice green lush grass and not hot rock hard concrete..

I'm guessing that your going to pick up one of the discounted 2009's? Some dynamite deals on those in the States. Heck, you can buy a brand new 2009 for what we pay for a one or two year old used model here in Canada. I'm guessing that you've read up on the Gen 2's oil consumption issues and such? My 08 uses a bit if I run it over 5K, if it ever starts using lots I'm going to drop the 685 kit in it :). Fantastic bike though, I love it!

Cheers,
Stew

So MICRider, where in the states are the good deals?

Lots of dealerships in the States are selling the brand new 2009 KLR's for around $5000. I've heard on klr650.net of some people getting them for just under $5k all in. The same bike here was running around $7K not counting freight, PDI, and admin charges. Would be close to around $8k out the door here.

Edit: Here's a link to a 650.net thread. Guys claim to be getting them for around $4600 to $5000 otd. The 2010 models are running around $6000 though, no incentives on them.

Sorry I don't know the specifics on the dealerships themselves, I just recall a lot of people saying that they are getting the 09's for around $5k because the dealerships are trying to clear them out. From what I understand the best rebates were offered in the spring. I think you can pick up an 07 or 08 there for around $3k with low mileage. The 07 and previous models didn't have the oil consumption issues that the 08 and ups do, but the gen 2's do have some other improvements such as better wind protection, beefier forks and better brakes. Too bad they had to mess with the engine though :(.

I paid the equivalent of $5200 for mine in the spring (traded my Shadow and gave cash), it had 2400 km's on it and about $1K worth of extras. I got an excellent deal for these parts. I really do love the bike but it is pretty heavy for single track. I use it as a daily commuter and back road explorer. It's running right around 9500 km's now and never misses a beat.

I will Look at some local dealers and tell them about the deals out here. Did you see one guy claims he got one for under 4 grand! Thanks for the help.
