i noticed that over tightning is to easy on my bike,
for example when doing my lock washer loctight day i stripped one of the 4 handelbar clamp bolts(not the bolt but the threads it goes into), and the lower triple tree fork clamp bolts.

luckily the fork bolts i could run a new bolt through.

i think if you can replace the whole bolt do so.(with the loctight special)

so i was wrighting this post because i lubed my swing arm bolt last night and really tightened it like 70-100 ft lbs.,then i say that post on that swingarm bolt breaking off and comeing out(that'ell kill ya)lucky guy.

did it break cus he over-tightened it.

I'd say that 70 to 100 ft/lbs on the swingarm bolt is too much. I torqued my front axle nut on my Viva front axle to 40 lbs. That should be enough on the swingarm bolt too. Maybe push it up to 45 lbs if it doesn't feel tight enough. The fork clamp bolts were torque to 25 ft/lbs. Anything more than that and your going to get into trouble. A Clymer manual for a Honda XL185 may be a good investment. I've been thinking about getting one.

Yeah, it's real easy to bugger these bikes up. The metal they use is really soft. When chopping apart the stock stuff to do my mods, I noticed you can cut through this stuff like butter. When cutting up my scissor linkage which is almost 5/16 in. thick, my sawzall walked through it like it was sheet metal. Kinda scarey actually :? . It welds real nice though, so I think it's relatively decent stuff, just real soft. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the "man killer" stuff like axles, triple clamp bolts, swing arm bolt, etc to make 'em a little safer.
