Show us a pic of the sight glass and maybe we can figure it out.

J,
Could this be the sight glass in the head that you are taking about?

If so I just think it allows you to see if you are getting oil flow to the upper end. You might want to pull the cover and clean the glass.

I have one on my 163FML. It's a small sight glass on the right side of the valve cover near the back. The valve cover is chromed maybe after-market dressing but I have no idea what it's for... other than a visual confirmation it's getting oil up top.

I just pick up one of these bikes and mine has that sight glass when I started the bike I could see the oil flow up into the glass so I assumed it's there to confirm you have oil flow to the top end.
Does anyone know where I can find a jackshaft for these bikes or is it going to be easier to just build one?

I like that sight glass idea; it confirms that the oil pump pickup ins't clogged.
I can't imagine where to pick up a replacement jackshaft, and I'd be inclined to build something better than the original piece anyway.
