I remember when I was a kid Sears sold mopeds (real ones with pedals, not scooters), and AMF minibikes.

I never thought I'd see Sears selling scooters.

When I was a kid, Canadian Tire sold all kinds of accessories for motorcycles, including helmets, etc. They then entered a dark period when all they sold for bikes was oil. Now, you can buy dirt bikes and quads there.

You just aren't old enough! In the day, Sears Canada sold Puch and Vespa, selected models, re-badged as "Allstate".

(we did not get this full range, for as many years, in Canada, but we got some)

Eatons sold Keystone (the mag wheel folks) mini bikes.

Sears was out of that market when I was little, but I remember seeing bikes from sears around.

I noticed a few weeks ago that they had minibikes in the store. Brought back memories of the one I road.

What makes me wonder is if they will have road titles for the scooters. I would be more apt to buy from a scooter from Sears they an online seller. At least the pricing was reasonable. Espicially if it comes with support.

I don't think they carry the gas ones in Canada, all I could find on Sears.ca was electric ones... I think they carry 5 different electric models. Though if the scooter is made by Baja, perhaps Canadian Tire either carries it or will someday carry it.

I noticed it was a baja scooter. I think that baja may be making their way into a longer term type status. They have inroads with TSC and Sears now. Both are reputable stores.

Here is Lily on a sears minibike in Duluth, GA.

Ahhhh, loved the old minibikes! Off topic but when I was in school (a thousand years ago...) they had a book in the library, I think it was called "Minibikes and Motorcycles for Beginners", I read it so many times I could quote it. Not a lot of motorcycle content in the library back then :D

Cheers,
Stew

Edit: Oops, sorry. Another flashback from Stew.

Stew, I think I actually remember that book (since we're about the same age). Do you remember a reference to lubrication that said "Dipping your entire bike in oil would probably do it a world of good"? I now understand the point, but at the time I took it quite literally.

Most days, I feel old enough.

In the old days, we had Simpson Sears, vs. Sears & Roebuck in the States. I didn't think we got the same merchandise back then. I have seen several references to Sears minibikes online, but I thought that was exclusive to the US stores. I don't think I've ever seen an Allstate in the wild.

I think that model is currently sold at Canadian Tire as a Baja Dirt Bug.

Lol, actually I was wrong on the title, It was Minibikes and Minicycles for Beginners. I saw it at the discard sale a year or two later and picked it up. Copyright 1973 :). Is this the one you were thinking of?

Hmm... Winters here, gonna have to read it again :D

Can't recall exactly Stew. I would have read the book I'm thinking of in 1977, so the timeline is close enough. Let me know if you find that reference to dipping the bike in oil.

Do you have any interest in Mini Bike Hero, from around the same time period? Not sure how old your kids are, but mine enjoyed it. Good Canadian lit. :D

1977? That was the year I started life.

I believe that mine is the doodle bug or something. It is a real basic 3hp unit. It did have a rear disc brake. Mommy said no.

Yup, I would have read it in 77 or so as well, it was just copyrighted in 73. Lot of info on Briggs and Strattons in it, amazing that I still managed to break so many flywheels anyway :D.

Sorry for yet another of my flashbacks, we will now return you to your normally scheduled thread on Sear's scooters... Stew's bad :)

Back when I was in school, they had a reprint of an old Sears catalog in the library, from the 1920's......

You think it's weird to see Sears selling scooters?! Well, brace yourself...back in the day, Sears sold CARS....AND Assemble-it-yourself HOUSES!!!!

Check this out:

Man...I wish Sears was still what it used to be- even when I was a kid! I have some old Sears catalogs I bought on Ebay- a 1968 and a 1974....man, I love reading them!!!!
