Wow, haven't had a snow day in awile, got to stay home and stayed busy shovelling yesterday as we got record snowfalls in the last 2 days. In my end of town we got about 85cm ( 33.4") and 20 min north of here they got 153cm ( 60") of the white stuff, funny part is 30 min west or east has little or none.

Sledding looks like a good plan as you'll not be using your picnic table for a while!

Is that what that is? I thought maybe the rear end of an old Model A Ford Tudor.
Do you ever ride on lakes Wayne?

Do you ever ride on lakes Wayne?
I have, but i prefer to stay on the trails, i'll leave the lake racing to the big sleds, my sled is only a 440cc that makes about 50hp so it's better suited to the tight twisties in the woods and i also love pounding the drifts. I'm also happy to say that my sled is a one owner sled, me, since 1993, the speedo broke at 6000mi but i bet there's well over 12000mi on it.
Well got 2 more inches last night and more snow is forcast for this weekend, can't wait to go sledding this weekend.

I'd stay on the trails too. I've watched some lake racing, and it looks insane. The sport that tops that for craziness is motorcycle ice racing. Control is nothing but an illusion.

Doc they are similar, but its the other way around. Jet Skis were derived from snowmobiles.
440cc 2 stroke with a CVT belt drive. That would be considered a small sled. Still plenty of power and lots of fun.
Could be polaris, skidoo, yamaha, artic cat.
waynev
12-09-2010, 01:31 PM
Yep, the sled is a 1994 Arctic Cat Jag 440z, it is a suzuki 2 cyl 2 stroke engine with twin 34mm Mikuni carbs and a CVT tranny, it is oil injected so no pre mixing is needed.
It's supposed to warm up to 2c tomorrow so that will be good to help pack the snow down, it's much more fun jumping the drifts then plowing thru them when the snow is too fluffy.
I'd like to have about 2 times that much snow :)

Then you need to go 20 min north of here, their up to 177cm (70") of the white stuff, and that's only in 4 days, more on the way for this weekend, yeah! !

I gotta ask Wayne, with that amount of snow in a fairly short time frame, you must have a big snowblower?

Funny, the weather.
I was driving on the highway today in what seemed like the end of a 24 hour rainstorm, the temp gauge in my van said 12 C / 53.6 F. That's a touch warm for December. :)

Well the wind didn't change the other day, 30 min west they have declared a "State of emegency", there's about 200 cars stuck on highway 402, the whole 100km stretch of the 402 is closed. The wind shifted today and we are getting lots of snow today, supposed to be 40cm by tomorrow, going sledding tomorrow after work, well if i go to work.

The local fire department was out on Sunday, helping residents of Clayburn Village in Abbotsford place sandbags. It has rained really heavily here in the last few days. We even had a thunderstorm last night.
I'm really grateful that I live on higher ground.
I noticed the rain.... Not the thunderstorm though... I haven't seen much lighting for quite a while now actually.
I like it when it really rains out, rather then just a light sprinkle, but I guess if you wind up with flooding it's a different story.

Well holy carp....as i was rebuilding my snowmobile engines top end last week in the pouring rain i wondered how i was going to get some breakin time on it before it goes on the racing kart this year, then that night it turned to snow and that allowed me 2 days to get about 50 miles on, then the rain took my snow away, then last night the rain...again... turned to freezing rain, power went out, and when i awoke this morning here was the view in my front and backyard. Looks like another great snow day to get some more miles on the fresh engine, this winter just won't quit, i love it.

I am "snow sick" here. Hasn't happened for a few years, but this was a bad winter here. Up until a week ago there was between 5' and 8' of snow in the yard, 3 days of +8 knocked it down to 3'-5', and I am impatient for the rest to go, which it can do anytime, thank you very much.
Bring on the warm weather, the rain, and the wind...... it can't come too soon for me.

You haven't taken your Christmas lights down yet either, huh? The difference with me is that I have no excuse. I hope you get the chance to wring out your sled.
I was in Saskatoon earlier this week, and they still have their share of snow, although not the epic proportions that Reveeen reported.
It ain't over yet. The official first day of Spring is largely disregarded in Canada.

Yep, been too cold to take the lights down, even santa and snowman are still in the front yard, looking forward to another sled ride today, i like about 200-300 miles to break it in before racing it.

Today in Kansas City it's about 65F and sunny. We are having a family get together, or should I say, I'm babysitting about 7 kids age from 6-12 while my brothers and sisters abandoned me. Otherwise, it would be a perfect day to go arrowhead hunting or some other outdoor activity.

Were suposed to get a tiny bit of snow tonight, then tuesday is 6C and thursday is 11C, i guess tomorrow will be the last day for snowmobiling this year.
I'll keep you guys posted in my "Going microsprint racing again next year" thread as to why i wanted snow at the end of this season so i'd have time to properly break in my engine so it's ready for our first race in june, so come monday warm weather is fine with me.

How far do you have to travel to ride the sled?
Do you wear heated gear on it?
waynev
03-23-2011, 11:04 PM
I keep it out at my buddies farm, since our nice little town got bought up by the city next door and now the cops won't let you ride in town anymore, it's only about 10min away.
As for gear, just some good snowpants, boots, warm jacket, balaclava and some good gloves keeps me nice and toasty, a full face helemet too, i like the tight twisty trails thru the woods, it actually makes you sweat riding challanging trails.
