I saw one in Pep Boys the other day and was really interested in buying one. This will be my very first bike and before I strat dropping money on the counter, I would like to know everything both good and bad about this bike before I buy.

Pep Boys wants $2000 for it brand new. Is it worth it. Please let me know what you all think of it!

I think it's a Honda Rebel 250 clone, and made by Hensiem. IIRC it's a good bike but is prone to transmission issues.

For many of us, myself included, $2,000 is a tipping point in the way we look at things. It's where many of us would rather go for a used Japanese bike than a new Chinabike.

For instance, $2,000 would get you a very nice used Ninja 250 which would be head and shoulders above the Phoenix.

So, the short answer to your question is I would not buy it, and start looking at CL for a used bike from one of the Big Four.

JMHO.

I would shy away. The trans issue is common enough on that model to not buy in my opinion. Not really worth it at any price.

A used honda rebel 250 would be a better buy. You can find near new ones for $2K. That would be a cruiser and if you want sport a ninja 250.

This is a perfect example of what we're saying:

Thanks for the responses guys. I didnt know that the Pheonix was prone to transmission issues.

Just out of Couriosity, is there anyone here that actually owns (or used to own) one? If so, what did you think of it?

I have one, and I keep going so far, you can read all about it just go back about two years and read my thread. I have heard from one guy who seemed to get the issue worked out, but one guy is not enough.
