Mizke, or anybody for that matter,
Do all 00-04 Mustang GT's have posi/limited slip or was that a special option?
My brother had a 00 Mustang GT 5 speed and it was posi, but I know his was special ordered with every bell and whistle availible (his wife is a Doctor, he's a stay at home Dad...life is rough for him). Anyway, I really liked the Mustangs of those years....not that I can or should buy one, but if I did, are all posi, or was that a special order?

all gt's and cobra's come with a locked diff and the year model you are lookiing at comes with a traction control button located around the cigar lighter in the dash.. if it doesnt have that button then its a v6 body with a swapped gt motor..all v6's before 2011 come with a open diff. 2011 v6's got remade and now come with a locked diff..

but there are differences between the year models.. that make what i consider big changes to the look of the mustang.

Yea, my brothers didn't have the big air scoop on the hood, nor the Krager style wheels, however the front and rear fascia's were the same. I'm not real picky as I find them all pretty nice looking, nor am I really interested in the different line ups as the base GT is quick enough for me. My main thing is to find one that's got low miles, in good shape and unmolested. I would prefer a 5 speed for the twisties, but if the right one came along, I wouldn't rule out an automatic. I've found quite a few nice 00-04 GT's priced between 10-15k with 25-55k miles on them. He never had any problems with his mustang, likewise I've never had any problems with my F150 with the 4.6 and it's 13 years old with 150k miles on it. My brother sold his a couple years ago with only 30k miles on it, but at the time I just bought a VW so I couldn't buy his. Besides, his was all black which is nice, but I prefer Blue, Silver, or Gray.
To be honest, I was just looking. I really need to focus on getting another semi truck, doing some work around the house and maybe getting my ole p/u freshened up a bit, but at the same time, a newer daily/weekend driver that got better fuel mileage, was in better condition, and yet still fun to drive would be nice. I bought a 07 VW a couple years ago, but sold it when work slowed down. Right now I could probably afford a car in the price range above. Again thanks for your insight.

00-02 front head lights have a chrome backing inside of them, the rear wing mounts on the sides
03-04 have black backing inside of the head lights, the rear wing sits on 2 little stands and is slightly more agressive looking
if you want a 5spd gt you are going to need to look at the 2005-2010 gt's as for some reason ford switched from the gt's having 6spd's to 5spd's for those years then back to a 6spd for the 2011 models

The five or six speed doesn't bother me....the main thing is that I like to be able to have more control in the twisties.....however like I said if the right one came along, I wouldn't rule out an auto. I like the 05 and newer ones but the price and insurance goes up quite a bit for some reason. Also I've never driven one, where as the other ones I've driven and like their seating position, visibility, controls, etc, etc.
Have they ever gotten rid of that solid rear axle? That's the only thing I didn't like about my brothers car.....when going over expansion joints on a broad sweeper the back end would get pretty upset. My Camaro was the same way. I've looked at older corvettes for that sole reason but the only ones in good condition in my price range are the C4....which I love, but those are starting to get a little older and sometimes age is just as hard as miles on a vehicle, plus the Mustang is a little more comfortable for regular or semi regular use.

03-04 cobra's have irs (independant rear suspension) but thats the only year i know of..
altho i noticed on my mustang i have all the mounts and holes predrilled and threaded for a cobra irs.. the bodies for the most part are all the same and are all made to have what ever style v6,gt or cobra stuff bolted on them..
i had a buddy who had a 03 v6, even tho it did not come with traction control. if you removed the little plastic sqaure plug cover from what the traction control button is, it was prewired for traction control. all he would have to do was buy all the hardware, put it together and mount it then plug in the plugs..
so you could take a 03 or 04 gt and do a cobra suspension swap, or if you can handle car payments take whatever you where going to use to out right buy the car and use it as a down payment on a 2011 v6 305hp redesigned modern engine, 6spd transmission. 305hp is 10 less then the 03 -04 mach1's, 35hp less then the 03-04 cobra's. so the v6 mustang is no longer the laughing stock of the muscle car world..

Yea, I've heard the new V-6's are pretty fast and beating some of the older v-8's. Matter of fact a new v-6 camaro pulled out in front of me a couple weeks ago and once he realized that he pulled out too late, he floored it and it took off pretty good. Nothing like the v-6 camaro's and mustangs from the 80's and 90's......those were lacking. Although I did have a friend that had a mid 80's Mustang SVO that was pretty quick or respectable in it's day. I forget if it was a 4 or 6 but it had a turbo.
I think 0-60 was about the 7 second range plus I guess it handled better then the 5.0's since the engine was lighter. I only got to ride in it a couple times.
If or whatever mustang, I were to get, I would leave stock as much as it would be nice to have independent rear suspension. Thanks again Mikze.

no problem man, this video is of a completely stock 11 v6 mustang running a 2010 completely stock gt. the get pulls off the line a little harder but in a 1/4 run the 11 v6 finishes about a car behind the 10 gt and even starts pulling the 10gt right before the race ends. so thats like a intake and hand held tuner that comes with tunes premade based on youre car and mods, and then a decent catback system. im willing to bet thats all it would take to out run a 10gt in a 11v6 in the 1/4.. now if you want to reach out to the 2011 gt (415hp, a full true 5.0) those basic bolt on's and a supercharger.

While my 4.6 has been completely maintenance free for 13 years (knock on wood) it does lack a little in the torque department......and or the torque peak doesn't hit untill higher in the rpm range. I'm glad they brought back the 5.0 as long as they bumped the redline up higher (at least for the mustang application) then the old 5.0.

if you want lower end torque get a v6.. the v6 has more low end torque then the gt's..

My neighbor across the street had a 03 Mustang V6. It was a nice car and while she never got on it with me in the car, I could tell it was peppy. While I'm open minded to new technology I would still have to have the V8 in a Mustang or Camaro.

well if you can find a unmolested decent milage 03-04 gt jump on it. i preffer the 03-04 year model for the 99-04 style mustangs due to the wing shape, black head lights.. just dont get a automatic, its a mustang. its ment to be a stick shift plus you will loose a crap load of power..
buddy of mine has a 03 v6 5spd and ran a 07v6 auto, from a roll at 50 his 03 stick shift ran dead even with the 07 auto.. the 05 and up v6 has more power then the 99-04 v6's but he lost so much power through the automatic transmission

Yea, after you pointed out the difference, I like the 03-04's look better.
Also, I agree. I prefer a manual.
