Not in California it's not, but I believe so in AZ. Simon?

You're right about Cali not legal. A group I belong to but haven't been to in many months (AZoffroad.com ? ? ?-I really don't remember the forum!) had spoken about how one cannot ride AZ registered ATV's in California as some people spend weekends in AZ/CA border areas and wanted to ride a few miles into communist, er, California territory for 12 packs and such. They were told under no circumstance by the local sheriff.

However, this quad looks street legal for AZ, except for the tires, IMO. AZ takes a little different approach than the socialist approach that some of the states take. For instance, I walked into a MVD office and walked out with my licnese plates, without needing the bike to be visually inspected. (I know, I had a slightly unusual time with Yuma's MVD office if you read my older posts from when the bike was registered). However, by putting the plates on my bike, it is up to me to make sure the bike is truly street legal such as mirrors, headlight, taillight/brake light/license plate light (I think all three, maybe just two, or even just one-don't remember). If I am not mistaken, turn signals might not even be required. However, a cop could pull you over for what they feel is a violation, and it would be up to me to prove that I was legal.

This dealer is out of Phoenix, so I would venture that the bikes are legal for AZ at least. I would also venture that the dealer is fudging the truth as to "most" other places being legal, too. You wouldn't be able to register it in AZ and transfer it to other states, either, if some of you were thinking of doing something like that. It has to do with the DOT laws that other states follow, which AZ does not.

Not legal in michigan.

from michigan SOS site:
Three and Four-wheel All-terrain Vehicles Cannot be Used on Public Roads

Three and four-wheel all-terrain vehicles (ATV) cannot be upgraded for on-road use. ATV's are manufactured with a live axle, rather than a differential gear, which seriously affects their handling characteristics when operated on paved surfaces.

They are just barely allowing atv's on the shoulders of roads, actually I think they are just testing it in a few places but for the most part it's a NAZI state here.

Does it surprise anyone that this would be perfectly licensable in Montana? 8)

Yes it is, as said, I'm not sure about the tires.
I saw in one of the magazines a few of years ago, a guy from PA that made a Honda ATC 200X Street Legal. He added street style tires that fit on the atc rims, speedometer, brake light switches, brake/tail light, turn signals & switch & headlight hi/lo beam. It was almost a half page article with a picture of him on the street at a traffic light. He said he got pulled over quite a bit but once he showed the officer all the legal stuff they had to let him go. All he did after all of the changes was get it inspected in PA by the BMV there and they assigned him a title for a Trike. I just wish I could remember the magazine, I'd scan it and post it. I'm pretty sure it was in PA. I'll check if I can find the magazine.

Neat, but it would handle like a dog on asphalt.

I was in a parade once with my 300ex.

Manual clutch + knobby tires + a solid rear axle + asphalt = lousy riding experience
