Weldangrind has created a popular topic with his picture of the day post. How about video links?

This is an interesting one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJsDOD0dTQI My only comment is this guy hasn't tried to buy land in BC.

Yeah, whatever isn't currently private land is probably Crown land, and ALR is prime real estate. I can't imagine a farmer subdividing his property for a few hundred dollars.

I did a bit of searching, I found .13 of an acre in Hope, only $70,000... Kind of throws a wrench into those plans. I guess maybe if I looked in Saskatchewan again that plan could work.

A couple months ago Verizon started capping me at 5 gigabytes monthly and I'm almost past my limit so I can't watch any videos right now. I've had a phone with them for 10 years and a wireless card thru them for 7 years and out of nowhere they decided to start capping me :?

That's too bad. I don't have any mobile data services, my home internet has a limit I think, but they don't actually track it. The governing agency recently changed the rules to add such limits, but there was a lot of people mad about it so the government told them they had to undo it, or they would. :) Finally, they did something right.

One day when my ex-wife and I were at Home Depot buying something, I noticed a two story shed similiar to the one in the video for $4800. I went over to it and my mind started racing. I kept thinking I could easily turn this into a house and be quite content living in something like that for the rest of my life. My ex-wife could see it in my eyes and for some reason I think the both of us knew right then, that our marriage wasn't going to make it. There had been other moments like that.....when I would look at maps of Colorado, or look at Semi Trucks and I would be in my own little world.....the problem was that it was "my" little world, not "our" world and we both knew it. For some reason, the Home Depot incident was different. Maybe it was because that little house represented me living alone, or that we were not on the same level, whatever it was, I'll never forget the look in her eyes that day.

Anyway back to fun stuff.
Before I bought the house I live in now I was going to buy two 40' shipping containers and turn them into a home. I was going to place them one stacked on the other in the shape of a plus + . One of my Brothers best friends that we grew up with is a home builder and did all the calculation. He was excited to do it because it would be something new to him. Land (3acre), containers, drywall, windows, plumbing, paint, electric, water, appliances, heating (electric and woodburning stoves), cooling (window a/c units), labor to build it etc, etc was going to run around $30-$35k.

The downstairs was going to have a family room on one wing, the kitchen in the middle and a storage/mini garage on the other wing. The upstairs was going to have the bathroom in the middle, my room on one wing and my son's room on the other wing. Then have a screened in deck on one side (on top of the lower level), and an open deck on the other side.

Everything was set but for the life of me I couldn't get a bank to take me serious. All four of them laughed when I brought in the plans, despite being from a respected builder. My brothers friend that we grew up with was going to finance it for me, but I didn't feel comfortable with that. Instead I bought this little two bedroom house I have know for $80. Don't get me wrong I like the little home I have now. It's small, clean, comfy and I have good neighbors but it bugs me that it's in the city, it bugs me that I can't park a semi w/trailer here, and it bugs me that I'm paying almost three times as much for a home just cause I couldn't get a bank to take me serious on the other deal. Oh well, someday when my son get's older maybe I'll give him this house and build my mini dream home.

Sorry for the long ramble.

Banks won't lend you the money if they don't think they can recoup the investment if you default. While very cool, a house of such unique design would probably have a tough sell in the local real estate market, even if well constructed and innovative.

Case in point, a co-worker had a difficult time borrowing money to build the home she wanted - standard 2 story colonial house. Her problem wasn't the house, it was the remote location. After construction was complete it would be worth less than the cost to construct, not to mention the difficulty selling it.

Yea, good point. I understand and I can't say that I blame them....afterall it's their money and their house until I pay it off.

That is pretty instense stuff.

Did you see the one where the guy smacks into a bridge at 130mph.
I don't think there is a video actually showing him hit the bridge but they show moments right before he makes impact.
I think him and his buddy were doing a stunt where one would go under a bridge and the other would go over the bridge, then deploy the parachutes.

Kato posted this in the scooter forum, but it deserves to be here as well. One of the most entertaining videos I've seen in awhile.

Another one on that same blog, and the video also relates to China so somewhat topical to the forum... http://the-mound-of-sound.blogspot.com/2011/03/welcome-to-age-of-philanthro-feudalism.html

By the way, the guy who writes the blog I think has some good taste if you check out the right side of the blog, the ace cafe logo, the old british bike safety ad, the rocker image, etc...

This is such a cool project to me. This guy has an MR2, and he's stuffed a radial airplane engine in it. I found it on a car forum that I frequent.
