Prayers sent. That looks miserable. Was that pic taken at your business or nearby? It's been a crap winter for much of the country. Even Kalifornia had been getting snow and flooding.

Is that Jamestown Pa.? Not trying to throw insult to injury, but isn't that the town that had a dam break up stream in the early 1900's? We had a massive flood here in Missouri back in 1993. There are several lakes that were formed from that flood and thousands of acres of former crop land that has turned back into forest mostly populated by Cottonwood trees. I anticipate we will have some flooding this year as well since lately we've had the same thing, rain over snow. Anyway, prayers and thoughts are with you.

Thanks All - Yes it is Jamestown, PA. The Spillway to the dam is North of me by about 2 Miles. If the DAM to the lake ever broke, wow devistation big time. Luckly the water went back to the creek. Very scary sistuation today. No Damage No flood in my building but very very close. Oh yeah that is a bridge in the back ground. Thanks again for all your thoughts. I should be back in biz tomoorow AM - Just have to rearrange my entire store becuase everything was put UP on tables and counters....Oh if anyone caresmy NEW qlink is safe. Thought I was going to have to break her in rain or shine without choice. She's up on a High Jack right now like the rest of everything in my store. PA DCNR controls the Flood gate to the creek, but they had it closed. That picture was natural runoff from all the streams around the lake. Thanks Again everyone.

I certainly commiserate with the flooding, had plenty this side of the ocean too, but my goodness, it isn't so bad when it is warm enough to wade in and fun to ride through! Cold and wet, brrrr. I am glad to see it is receding Andrew and that the 'bike is OK, not that it would have been your biggest priority of course. Good luck and let us hope it all calms down.

Yep, that's the dam break I was talking about. I was thinking early 1900's. It's kinda creepy driving through the downtown area knowing that there were body's never recovered that are more then likely buried below parts of the city.

yeah sure is. Have you been here to J-Town? :?:

I'm sorry the dam I'm talking about that killed a couple thousand people was in Johnstown and yes I've been thru Johnstown but I don't think I've been thru Jamestown. I remember dropping off a load of kubota tractors somewhere north of Sharon, but I can't remember the name of the town.

JTCAndrew

Probably hemitage or greenville pa. Jamestown Did flood in 1889 and killed 2100 people according to wikipedia. That could be wrong though. They maybe mistaken for Johnstown, beause today I think our population is alittle over 3 thousand.......maybe

More Creek Flooding - No riding anytime soon around here. Here are some Pictures I took Today of the Little river behind my Business. The river is almost up to the tops of the banks. In some of the Pictures you'll see a LAWN Marker - Thats is how high it came up a week ago. Tommorrow - Sunday we are supposed to get 5-8" of NEW Snow! Wow will this ever end? Is the world coming to it's end? I wonder. Here are the Pictures:

Pretty scary. I'm wondering what the river is like the rest of the yera. Is it a blessing? Can you swim or fish in it?

As far as the world coming to an end the answer is definatly yes. At least in as much as we understand it. It's replacement will be much nicer. :D

Doc - The river really kinda starts from the Spillway at our lake Pymatuning Lake. However there are a few small streams thats also feed into it. Although it is called a river, I know this as a Creek. Yes plenty of fish Bass, Trout, Walleye, Perch, Muskee, and Northerns. I'm sure a forgot a few toom like catfish etc.....Behind my store in mid summer iy maybe 3ft deep at most. Crazy huh? I'm hoping it all ends soon.

Hmmmm... Flooding is bad, but being able to fish out of your back yard is too cool! It is a weird year weatherwise, weve had more snow than usual up North and a freakishly long cold spell... I work outside (yay me!) all the time and I've been working in -40 Celsius temps (with the wind chill) for so long that I often wonder if spring will ever come. It's funny too, -40 Celsius is the same on the Fahrenheit scale, -40. I sooo miss riding :(

Cheers,
Stew

Andrew! You still haven't ridden her? Petrol will be $50 a gallon by the time you get out and about.

MICRider, I admire your fortitude, I don't know what you work at but don't they have openings in California or Florida? I used to work outside all year when I specialised in roofs and chimneys repair, often below freezing but never as cold a syou. These days I go indoors and put the kettle on if it gets below 15C.

Nope haven't riden her Jape- But this is a personal invitation to come to Pennsylvania's flooding and tomorrows NEW 5-8" of snow covered roads and break her in for me - How about that? LMAO  I'm trying but I ain't stupid either :)

We are not flooding yet, but I guess some of the creeks are getting pretty swollen. I was supposed to do some work on the Ozark trail today but they canceled it because the creek crossing were to dangerous.

Anyway, hope things work out for you.

No , but thanks, anything under 10C and I turn into an old man wrapped in rugs. It is much easier to pull your chain.

I hope your river doesn't get any higher and that soon it will take a turn for the better. Is there much snow sitting, will you get a thaw flood as well? And as a btw do you have a boat? It may be time to start building an Ark and calling yourself Noah!

...and check the fine print too, a lot of people in the Queensland floods got badly ripped off and lost everything because of definitions of riparian or storm floods. Nasty bastards the Insurance companies can be, its all floods and water however it arrives. People paid for flood Insurance each year their whole lives - and got taken for a ride, no payout, no home.
