Just picked up a 2009 TMEC 200cc Enduro. Picked it up from a local dealer here in Muncie, Indiana - USA. Paid $1500 for it out the door tax included. Has just 1 mile on the odometer. Was able to title and register it as a motorcycle here in Indiana with the Certificate of Origin and the sales tax form.

Anyone familiar with these? What type of engine does it use? Has TMEC stamped on the side but it appears to be a Lifan 163FML OHV. But, it could be an OHC, I'm not sure. New to this. Appears to have dual piston brakes, front fork covers, rack, skid guard, street tires. Advertised top MPH is 75. Is this right or even close? Will be using this for a fun economical commute vehicle for back and forth to work. May need to change the spocket and gear to get the desired RPM for best fuel efficiency. Most speeds will be between 45-55 MPH and looking for @60-70mpg. Is this model a copy of a more recognized brand? Might help with parts locating.

What all should I check, change or watch for being that it's new? Change the oil, tighten bolts, check for plastic wrap, any pinched wires, battery charged completely. What else?

Here are a couple pics I took of the bike. Should drive it home this week as the weather is forecasted to improve. Been raining and cold as of late. Will post more pics soon!

Nice looking bike! It was a great price, and it appears to have some fancy bits. Most of these are OHVs. Please post a pic of the left side of the motor and we can tell for sure.

Welcome to the forum!

Welcome!

Nice bike. 8) I like the satin plastics, and the rear rack looks functional.

I also like the Sachs Madass next to it. :D

Lots to like about that bike! I like the wide seat, gold rims and overall looks. The only minor drawback I see is a front fender that appears to be oversised.

Congrats on the purchase! Good price too.

Nice looking bike and a great price.
I have four Chinese bikes that I have assembled from the crate and just do the oil change and battery prep plus checking chain tension, etc. Never do a wholesale checking of bolt and nuts. So far so good for me but since your bike has been put together by a dealer I would just ask them what they did and what they suggest you do.

So, despite the weather, I drove it home today. What a cold ride! Got it home and idled it up some. Battery seems up so I'll leave it be. Changed the oil and recycled it. Dumped it down the gas tank of my Diesel Truck :D Here are a few more pics of the tires, brakes, engine and carb.

Which is the idle air adjustment screw? Thinking it would be to the side by the exhaust. What is the screw threading up from the underside into the carb?

Took off the seat and checked the air box, looks good to go. Checked the wires and nothings getting pinched. There is a choke on the carb. I believe that with it all the way up is choke on, middle is partial and all the way down is open / run. Seems to idle good now that the idle speed is set, but would like to set the idle / air properly. Has 167FML stamped on the block and is pictured below.

Where could I get replacement brake pads or parts in general for this Enduro if need be?

Thanks!

Welcome, and congratulations of acquiring your new bike, VT! :) The TMEC-200 has a nice, wide, comfortable saddle. You bike also has a very strong luggage rack. :) I got a close look at the TMEC-200 last fall, when I rode my Zong to American Fork, Utah. I posted photographs of the TMEC-200 about 3/4 of the way down the page at the following thread. ;)

You got a good deal. :) I believe you have an OHV engine, as Doc suggested. The screw you pointed at in the first photograph probably drains the carburetor float bowl. ;)

Okay, You have a pushrod engine. Nothing wrong with that.

The first carb pic is the bowl drain. Second pic with a screw is the air/mixture screw, and then your not pointing to it you see a horizontal screw with a knurled head. It will be on the right side of the carb. That is the idle adjustment.

You have the choke procedure correct. If the bike starts easily in the cold it is probably set pretty close. Usually they are lean from the factory to pass EPA.

Front pads shouldn't be a problem. Standard china bike, but I haven't seen a rear caliper like that before.

Spud, as a matter of interest for you maybe, the dealer here says Zhongshen engine!
http://mefast.com/TMEC200/200ccEnduro.html

It is a 167fml OHV as you can see. You and others often say that zhongs are pretty solid, it would be nice to know if they are zhong engines.

The Wuxi company may be making them for Zhong or round the other way of course! TIC

I know we can look up some stuff from VIN but I just found out also that the emissions engine type code will unlock material too: 9TMPC 196TPI

this MAY help folk trying to register vehicles as well

Thank you for posting all the good information, Jape. :) Indeed, Zongshen makes good engines. ;) I have ridden 39,500 miles on my Zongshen engine, and it still performs very well. :D

Thanks for posting the nice video, VT. :) The first screw you pointed at drains fuel from the carburetor float bowl. I think the second screw you pointed at is the pilot mixture screw. ;)

We are going to expect more videos, now that we know how quick you post them! The bike looks better in the video than the photos. It seems that the TMEC bikes are somewhat popular in the UK in 125cc form.

I think these bikes can be the new Zongshen Sierra, Spud  I think that VT247 might have started a new 'cult' for these bikes

I found this on a google search for a contact for TMEC

http://dealer09.mapyourshow.com/2_1/exhibitor_details.cfm?exhid=1187&markcamefrom=y

It shows a contact in the outskirts of L.A. in Chino Hills, Calif. Wonder if they are still in business?

Very nice bike! :D
Proven, bullet proof motor.....
Read a bunch on the 'normal Honda-noid" fixes here and you'll be good-to-go!

3 important things first.
One.....Make sure there's space between your rear brake lever actuater and the rear master cylinder plunger when your foot's not touching it. If you don't, as you ride, the rear brake will heat up and start dragging and eventually lock up until it cools. My rear disk is a cool color now because of that and it only happens 5 miles from your truck.
Second....I guarantee your valves are to tight. Adjust them.
Third....Set the idle mixture screw (the one that points straight down behind the floatbowl) at 2 turns out from stop. Then adjust as needed.

Nice machine. 8)

It looks like the plug wire is a little close to the exhaust pipe. You can trim it if necessary.

Yup!

My buddy's HSUN's rear brake locked up while riding about 50 MPH. I'm so glad he was able to ride it to a stop. 8O

+1 on the valve check as well. If you've not done it already check out the Dual Sport Preparation thread. :D

Ill be getting the same bike, what is this about the valves being too tight? Is there a little tutorial on adjusting them properly?

Yes, there is an excellent tutorial on valve adjustment in the Tech Sticky posted at the top of the Dual Sport Forum. :)

Welcome to these forums, Joe. We are glad you joined us. :D

I don't know of any Chinese motorcycles with a magnetic pickup for the speedometer. Therefore, I'm pretty confident the TMEC's speedometer is connected to a mechanical cable. ;)

It is most definitely a speedo cable since mine broke and I had to buy a new one from a UK dealer on ebay.
