sorry guys i need to vent

so the house i live in happens to be next door to a house that was turned into a business.. they havent opened the business yet but are getting the property ready to.. so in the process of doing that, yesterday they start cutting tree's down. that fine cept for a few key things, first off they cut down the 2 tree's between my house and theirs. those tree's where nice big decent shade tree's, and they cut down a 28yr old red oak that my old boss planted when he first moved into that house. so no the property looks like crap.

2nd business to vent about

a day care just opened up across the street and down one house.. this street has people living on it that have been here since the 70"s.. this day care has the side of their front lawn turned into a nice well made parking lot.. which they do not use, every day one person parks in the 8car parking lot, and 4 other people that work there park in the street behind old people's driveways.. making it extremely hard for them to back out of their drive.. also these people seem to think that the trash cans are to put out on the side walk of a busy 6 laned road covering the side walk forcing people on bikes and walking down said sidewalk to step out into the street to go around their trash. they also dont seem to understand that just because you put a crap load of trash out to be picked up does not mean it will be picked up. they have nto used the exrtra trash bag stickers, so when the trash company picks up and dumps the cans they will not take the stuff on the side walk. so it will sit there, ive tried explaining the parking situation to them and about the trash cans needing to be put at the base of their driveway and i got told to get off of their property that they will do what they want when they want it..

so i have reported them for illegal dumping, as well as made complaints with the city about the parking and how they do not use the parking lot the city made them build if they where going to open a business.

i am getting sick and tired of business's coming into house's in residential zones. if they do open a business in a house on a street where people live, they need to show more respect to the people who have been living there for over 3 decades. but do they ? nope its their way or the highway, but i for one will not sit back and take this any longer. if they want to try and walk all over people who actually own their homes on this street then i feel like its my duty to report them for every single violation they make. now if they had been nicer, heard me out and understood i was trying to help them while keeping this a decent street to live on, i would not be reporting them. id let them do their thing, but since they want to be so rude and disrespectful to the older people on this street, i will fight fire with fire...

i needed to vent about this, as well has hear some feed back. i know some people are going to say why bother with it, let them be d-bags if they want. thing is people that act like this do so because every other person just lets them get away with it. does not hold them accountable for their actions.. that ends with me

I grew up in Houston,Texas where there is no zoning so that businesses open up all the time in residential areas. Same in Robbinsville,NC where there is no zoning. Don't know about Austin,TX where I went to UT over 40 years ago but I guess there is no zoning.

Not much you can do about it.

Thankfully we have zoning rules here to stop that crap long before it even starts.

If you keep bugging the city they will tire of it and finally do something unless they are buds with the people running the business.

How do the rest of the neighbors feel, if the rest of the people dont like it then altogether as a group complaining to the city might get action.

I hate people with that "I'm doing whatever I damn well feel like no matter how it bothers you" crap thats fine in some places but not when it negativly effects others.

But since thats the way they want to play it then just stay on them and they'll either pull it together or get the boot.

As a last ditch jesture send them a nice welcome basket with a small pamphlet explaining how things work in that neighborhood.

Has your area been rezoned lately?

its zoned for business use.. so is the house im in.. i just wish people would respect the fact that there are people that live here. most times i just leave things alone and not concern myself with them. but i will report any kind of violation i witness.. i reported them yesterday for the trash along the side walk and then reported them today after the trash pick up came and didnt pick it up cuz they didnt use the extra trash bag stickers and ti wasnt bagged.. but did they go pick it up and move it back into the driveway to dispose of little by little every week ?

nope its still lined on the sidewalk blocking all use of the side walk and they already went home for the day..

In most areas it is there responsibility to keep the sidewalk clear. Should not matter if its a business or homeowner.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this situation, Mike. :( I also encourage you to check the laws, and group together with your neighbors; there is strength in numbers. ;)

THANK YOU, all of you.. after doing some research on the link weld posted.. i can report the stupid day care every single time they put their trash cans out on the side walk.

i can also report my neighbore for cutting down a heritage tree which is certain types of tree's that have a trunk diameter of 24inches and stand 4 and one half foot above natural grade..my neighbore cut down a 26yr old red oak that was right at about 3 storys or 30ft. in austin all oak's are considered heritage tree's and thus protected requiring a permit to cut down.

i also looked up the bicycle laws for austin and turns out bicycles are allowed to ride on the side walk unless in the downtown area. time to make up some flyers and throw them at bikers that run stop signs causing cars to slam on their brakes and bikers who just have to ride in traffic lanes for whatever reason or my personal favorite they ride on the shoulder but instead of stay as far from the traffic lanes as they can. they decided to ride 1ft away from the solid white line sperating the traffic lane from the shoulder. i know it seems petty but in austin bikers are a PITA and think they own everything, it is a huge problem.

Sorry to hear your problems. The street I live on is hit and miss. Most of the people try to take care of their yards and my surrounding nieghbors are great, but there are a few down the street that leave garbage out, their houses are dumps, and overall I wish they would leave, but then I'm sure some of my neighbors don't like my lifestyle so I try to "live and let live." Again, I totally understand where you are coming from.

If you really want to get rid of the problem, then buy three cages so that that each cage can fit in the other one. Then go buy a Macaw, a Cat, and a Schnauzer. Put the Macaw in the smallest cage, then put that cage in the next size cage. Put the cat in that cage. Then put those cages in the third cage and throw the Schnauzer in that cage. Place the cages housing the Macaw, Cat, and Schnauzer in the back yard and take a vacation for a week. When you come back from vacation, there will be no more neighbors........gauranteed!

You people should be ashamed of yourselves.

It's exactly this kind of bull---- that shuts down riding areas, and keeps us from riding on the land we should be entitled to ride on, including our own in some case.

It's their property, and they're not hurting you. leave them alone, and let them do what they want with it, and stop being so petty.

This kind of BS drives me nuts.

This is pretty much how I feel unless there is a safety issue involved. Did have some neighbors involved in selling drugs. It got stopped due to another neighbor and I logging the vehicles and photo evidence. I now have good neighbors next door.

I live in redneck neighborhood. Immobile cars, tractors, chickens. Riding ATVs and dirt bikes. Fine with me. Drug dealers are not tolerated.

J/K-ing, actually I dont mind to many things.
Garbage all over is bad and unkept yards, non running vehicles in front yards with tree's growing through them sucks, cars parked in the road bothers me only on tight streets, people who have dogs that bark non stop can get annoying, loud music/parties during weeknights and the people that burn in their yards only because the smell makes me sick.

Luckily we now have excellent neighbors and we may actually be the "problem" neighbors.

We all keep are stuff in the back yards. Barking dogs make my list too. Fortunately those neighbors moved. My neighbors truck has been parked on the cul de sac a year now. Its not in the way and is still tagged. He just ran out of room on the drive. No one really has trash in the yard and for the most part the grass is mowed. Sometimes someone gets behind. Others help them.

I was mowing 3 yards for a couple years. Unoccupied houses.
