Americans, get our your yer' wallets:
http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/senate/151765-cbo-says-taxing-drivers-based-on-miles-driven-a-real-option-for-raising-revenues
This idea is so stupid I'm surprised our government didn't think of it first.

Since they are losing out on revenue from the Hybrids then need a new way to soak people.
I wonder if this technology uses the vehicle computer to work via the OBD11 port. If so then I am safe with my truck and scooter.

A way to get more money for the govenment? Reduce taxes and restrictions on business and individuals, promote job growth and construction, and increase the tax base. It's not rocket science.
Aggressively end the wars we are fighting and bring our troops home. That would save American dollars and lives.
Drill the %$#@ out of Alaska and Kalifornia and wherever there is oil. Administer middle finger to the Middle East. If necessary conquer some piss-ant sand country and drill it for oil.

Nah :D .
I'd just pick some place that had a hand in attacking us on 9/11 and call it good.

I prefer we keep our Northern neighbor as an independent nation. Lets take over Mexico. They all want to here anyway.

Another complex tax system....great!
To a certain degree that is sorta how they tax semi trucks You are charged per mile you travel and in what state, but then you are given credit for fuel you purchase. For example,
I live in Kansas City, and say I had a line haul route to Chicago and back. Once I fill up in Kansas City, I won't need fuel until I get back to Kansas City. Round trip is roughly 1000 miles, yet 500 miles was Illinois. Therefore I paid taxes in Missouri, yet 50% of the time I was tearing up Illinios roads, therefore Illinios charges me .31cpm on a taxable gallon. In otherwords, if I get 5mpg then every 5 miles I'm charged .31 cents, if I get 7mpg then they only charge me .31 cents for every 7 miles. If I buy more fuel then miles traveled, they reimburse me. For example, if I buy 100 gallons of fuel in Illinios and but only travel 5 miles before I enter missouri then at 5mpg, I'm charged .31 cents but then reimbursed for the other 99 gallons, so I would get back $30.69. Each state charges differently based on their needs. In the end I would still end up oweing around $200 per quarter. I would mail that to my home state and they would distribute the funds to the other states. Missouri, Oklahoma, and Georgia are some of the cheapest states, Illinios, Pennsylvania are some of the highest. Some states do don't charge for miles that traveled in toll sections, other states do. Some states add a Ad Valorem tax....Kansas  some have a completely other set of tax rules, Oregon, Kentucky, New Mexico, New York  .
In the end all are complex and when I had my truck it took about a day every quarter just to complete all the paperwork. Most guys end up paying somebody else to do the paperwork which is probably the smart thing to do since a day out of the truck is several hundred dollars of fixed expenses lost without revenue. Me, I was too stubborn and like to know which state was doing what with my money. Some states, I just completely stayed out of.

There's a thought.
Mexico has oil, and we could eliminate the illegal immigration problem all at the same time.

In a way the pay/mile idea is good. Everyone would pay the same to use the roads, but they would need to do away with the federal gas tax then.
I think that keeping the per/gal tax is a simpler process. People won't get another bill that needs to be paid.
We just need to go to the fairtax so that everyone pays. Even the Canadians that hang out in Arizona.

While I don't agree with trying to take over other countries and or taking advantage of them for oil or religious reasons, I won't apologize for my fellow American's statements in regards to 9/11. It's a very sensitive subject . In my short 40 years of existance, there has been,
The Iran hostage ordeal
Beruit
TWA hijacking
Pan Am flight
Multiple nightclub attacks in Germany aimed at US soldiers
93 WTC attack
9/11 attack
Since 9/11 there has been numerous other terrorist attacks such as 3/11, England's bus bombing, India hotel bombings and the most horrible of all is the Belsan incident.
I highly doubt all or any one was the act of their own government actions, regardless of what is on the internet. The internet is a great source of information but at the same time you have to carefully weed through some of the garbage out there.

To be honest you must all know that that statement was tounge in cheek. I don't advocating our capturing a foreign nation for their oil.
On the other hand my desire for aggressive supression of our enemies is accurate.

True Statement Of The Day.
I see this in my practice. Patients who can be helped or horribly misled by what they read on the internet. A person has to be intelligent and discern what he/she reads, or hears, either on the internet, or anywhere for that matter.

This isnt a surprize as I seen it coming.
It's not rocket science that having more fuel efficient vehicles on the roads will lead to less fuel taxes being collected.
We dont have any seriously high tech common/affordable vehicles on the roads because they havnt found a way to bring them to mass market and still have their hands in our pockets.

This is a debris field from flight 4184. It was half the altitude and had probably half the speed when it nosed dived into the ground in 1994.
Can you see the plane? Not much there, just like flight 93. There is a good chance some of us have eaten corn grown right from that spot by the following year.

FastDoc,
I wish it were that simple.
My Father's close friend and co-worker missed flight 4184 because he was late to the airport because of the bad weather which is why that story stays fresh in my head. Which btw, after looking it up, that plane was going almost 200mph slower then flight93 upon impact and you see what's left of it.
My Father was at Logan Airport on 9/11 catching a plane back to the midwest that morning. We were not able to get a hold of him until the next day, however his secretary was able to tell my mother that he was not booked on any of those flights. My father was able to team up with a couple other businessmen whom he didn't know and rent a car. I think one of the guys lived in Pa, the other two in Chicago, and my father came back to Kansas City.
The pilot from the TWA hijacking was from Missouri. A young military man going home was killed.
Growing up as a paperboy I would constantly read about terrorist attacks and hijackings. It scared me becaues my father was a business man who flew to europe several times a year.
Now when I go Staten Island over to Long Island, I no longer see the Twin Towers. It's bizarre that something that was so prominant in the skyline is not there anymore.
As much as I like this site, I will not, nor can not sit on my hands knowing that thousands of innocent people lost their lives in one of the most terrifying ways possible and let somebody imply that 9/11 was an "inside job" or "faked". Fuck that.......fuck that!
