It looks like you bought the third rail for the trailer. Will it hold three bikes if you place one in reverse?

That's an enviable rig. The Ranger with two bikes on the trailer looks like a recipe for a great day. :D

Hey Doc, are brake lines up that high because the forks are compressed?

It may hold 3 small bikes, like XR 100's, but with the KLX and the Dirt Rat I don't think a third bike would fit. I mounted the middle rail so I could haul one bike. :D

Nothing makes a pickup look better than a dirtbike or two in or behind it. :P

Your a blessed man, Doc. I love the Tri-Cities. Almost moved there about 20 years ago. A bunch of my X-wifes family is from there, still is.
Always had a GREAT time! :D Lots of wide open spaces and 'playland'.

That is a very nice trailer, Doc. :D If I may ask, how did you acquire it?

Spud :)

Craigslist. I think I paid $350 for it. The middle rail cost me about $80, and $20 or so for the paint. Maybe 5 hours of time to clean it up and paint it. $450 is not exactly cheap but it is a good trailer, and I wanted something very light for my little truck. Also, when not in use, I can easily wheel it into the barn.

That's a great deal, Doc. :D I really like the light trailers; they are much easier to move around! ;)

Especially for a little 4.0 V6 pickup!

I wish I had the 4.0l. Actually a 5.0l

The 4.0 is fine, but the 5.0 rocks, and with a 5 Speed would probably give the sam,e or better mileage.

Not a conversion for the faint hearted though.

I've read that a 4.2 or a 3.8 is a bolt-in if the original engine is a 3.0. Son of Weldangrind has a 3.0 in his Ranger, and we might consider a larger engine when the time comes. It has a 5 speed.

If I do any engine swap it will either be a 5.0 or a diesel of some form.

The 2.3l just does not have the oomph for trailers and so far I believe my best was 24mpg. Usually 19-20.

My even better plan is an F250.

That mileage is not a whole lot better than my 4.0.

I'd love a diesel but there are few Stateside (and Canada-side) options that I am aware of.

The 5.0 is totally do-able. There are detailed instructions on www.therangerstation.com. :D

The 5.0 would be the easy swap. I was looking at a cummins 4bt.

Too cool.

There were a few early G1 Rangers with diesels. Ohlin's or Mazda. The Mazda I believe was a turbo.

Mitsubishi turbo and a mazda/perkins unit.

Both would be too underpowered for me.

FastDoc

Both are underpowered. I think they are 65 MPH trucks. The 200cc CB of the truck world. Cool though. I'd sure like one. I hear they get 40 MPG and will run on any liquid hydrocarbon. :D

Most of the small 4cyl trucks are 65mph units. I might be able to get 75.

I am looking at a crewcab truck of some form. Gas mileage is not a big factor as I don't use it daily.
