I got the blue racing cdi today, WOW, what a difference! ! I have a shineray 200gyi, 163fml engine. It reves freely and has great pull, only difference is the idle is lumpy due to advanced timing, no biggie sounds like the mx bikes. Oh and I have by trial and error. found that the high rpm hesitation these enduros have is due to the carb, it is verry sensitive too jetting, needle position and fuel mix screw adjustments, I am ruunning a 105 main jet, needle in top position, fuel screw out 1 and 3/4th turns and a emgo cone air filter, seeems this setup is the best yet, give it a try!!

Very intersting and good to hear. I had always assumed a 'performace' CDI would not make a perceptable difference. Good news!

It is a good cheap perormance gain. I fell in love with my shineray again:). I woould say at least. .75. To. 1 hp gain, and smoother accell, and no rev limit.

No biggie:), oh a little update on the blue performance cdi, well ,... the power is good, the engine revs freely, however the timing at idle speed sucks, the bike idles like a yzf250 mx bike running on av.gas, just really unstable, I am going to try to re adjust the pilot jet at work tomorrow to try and smooth it out, but I belive this cdi was ment for flat out speed, not driveability. Oh well I will deal... I will let you all/know if I can get it running a bit smoother tomorrow at the shop.

Glad to hear that you're having good results with the new CDI.
The setup you're describing is counter-intuitive; just goes to show how theory can be way off base. A 105 main sounds lean, and the needle at the top (I presume you mean clip at the top) is the leanest setting. I wonder if it would improve with a 110?
Can you post a link to the CDI?

It seems if I go a any larger on the main jet or go down on the needle position the bike had a high rpm stumble, how I have it now seems to get rid of that, and yes I will put a link to the cdi tonight, thanks everyone:)

You mentioned your Emgo air filter, but what are you running for a carb and exhaust?

I HAVE A PZ27 STOCK CARB, AND STOCK EXHAUST(WITH 1 INCH HOLE DRILLED NEXT TO THE OUTLET. I WOULD LIKE TO TRY OUT A PZ30 CARB, BUT THE WIFE IS NOT PLEASED THAT I HAVE SPENT ANY MONEY ON THIS BIKE, IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR CHEAP TRANSPORT TO WORK, SHE SHOULD HAVE KNOW BETTER :P . I ALWAYS MAKE MY TOYS BETTER, FASTER AND STRONGER.

I own a shine myself and was looking at changing out the cdi but I was going to change our the coil also to a hi performance one. Did you change your coil too? I have a pz30 carb I'll be putting and wanted to do it all at once.

no, as i stated above the wife is pissed i spent any money on this bike, so the coil will stay sock until it dose not function, then i will find a good high output coil.:)

PLEASE BE WARNED, IF YOU DO GET THE CDI I BOUGHT, YOUR BIKE WILL IDLE ROUGH, LIKE A 01-02 YAMAHA YZ250F, BUT AS SOON AS YOU OPEN THROTTLE , SHE WILL WAKE UP AND GO, SO...IF YOU DO A LOT OF STOP AND GO DRIVING, FORGET ABOUT IT, IT WILL STALL ON SLOW TAKE OFFS AND PISS YOU OFF, BUT IF YOU COMMUTE ON THE HIGH WAY LIKE ME , IT IS PERFECT :0

Roger that. My wife tends to get pissed at some of the stuff I do to. I found a cdi/ coil combo on eBay that I think I'm going to try. I'll let you guys know how it works out. How many mile you have on you shine?

i have 600 miles as of today, i do about 125 a week. i will be dropping the engine to adjust the valves in another 600 miles, cant wait :? i tried to remove the valve cover the other day when i was doing the 500 mile service, and found the frame to be to close to get the cover off, what is this a BMW car!! i thought these bikes were supposed to be easy to service, geez!

I know getting the top of the carb off isn't a piece of cake either. Real close to the frame. It makes me wonder how close the 30 mm will be.

the pz30 will be the same size, the bore is larger, thats all, the body of the carb remains the same.
