I just bought my first bike (XP 200) and I need a luggage solution for commuting. Most luggage solutions seem to be designed for street bikes and cruisers. If anyone has some pics of their dual sport bike's luggage setup, or just some product advice, that would be very cool. Thanks.

This was my solution:

However, they add about 30lbs empty. On these chinese bikes I would look for these cases instead:

...or at least the smaller steel cases.

Why is it a good idea to use ammo cans for bike luggage?

~Air tight. Good cans have seals around them. They float, they keep the weather out, they keep your goods clean.

~Cheap. Ever lay a bike down on top of a $300 Givi case?

~Tough. Even if you lay the bike down on your $30 case it would take a hell of a hit to damage it. They are strong. They don't scrape away in a slide. If they don't crush and don't tear away, then your possessions inside will survive the worst crashes.

~Max Rockatansky. He was a pimp.

I put one of the JC Whitney large trunks on my Konker, it worked great and held a lot, but you have to install a rack first to bolt the base plate to. I was fortunate to buy a rack from Crazy Carl but he has long since ran out... Some other people are custom building their own racks though. Here's what my Konker looked like after I stuck the trunk on it.

Thank you for your replies. I just found a Motocentric Tail bag at Motorcycle Superstore. The first review is a guy who used it on a Suzuki DR200SE. I figure it will likely work on an XP200 given the similarities.

Here is the link:

It has built in bungee hooks which I like. I don't really want to drill into my bike yet. Do you think it might be an easy install?

Also I found these saddlebags. The last review on the first page is a guy who used them on a dual sport bike.

Thoughts???

I have often wondered the same thing concerning my luggage. I do not like the trunk-style boxes nor do I like the bulky bags some sell. Also, I'm cheap. It is difficult to find cheap saddlebags. Maybe I'm just too picky.

Please keep us informed of your impending purchase. I would like to see pictures if you get the installed saddlebags you mentioned.

I got the removable enduro bag from MC Superstore, but all I haul is my lunch and strap on my coffee thermos. You're probably looking for something bigger but it holds my food, checkbook, shades, etc... just fine.
I've had excellent treatment from MC Superstore, BTW.

That Moose fender bag looks really nice on the Qlink 2LZ. I really like it, and it seems like a nice fit. I don't want to drill holes in my rear fender but I'm really considering this bag. It may not be much space but it is better than my pant pockets. Thanks for the pic.

Thanks! Most people don't even know what it is. It was one of the best bikes I ever owned (after ditching the stock charging/igition system for GL500 stuff).

I had a lot invested in her...mostly emotionally. I can't help but share random pictures or her or my TL1000S any time either come up in conversation.

My buddy had the turbo version, and he speaks fondly of it.

Max Rockatansky. He was a pimp.

Totally. I dig the Mad Max look. I bought some smaller ammo boxes for the same purpose.

Indeed. ;) The CX engine is distinctive; I recognized it immediately. :)

I just placed an order for these saddlebags.

Will post a fair review as soon as possible. If you read the bottom of the linked page, you can see they already seem to have great reviews from many, many satisfied customers.

That's an FMF Universal Spark Arrestor, Chris. :) I installed one on my Zong several years ago. My Zong's performance increased, and I dropped 7 pounds from my bike by installing the FMF silencer. :D
