View Full Version : Deca battery for the KLR, I love it!

Just slapped a Deca AGM battery in my KLR. I thought the original battery was cranking it a little slow at work the other night, and without a backup kick I don't want to get stranded. It's one of the totally sealed AGM batteries... I believe it can be mounted in any position (don't quote me on that though). Spins the bike over much faster!

If your ever in need of a good replacement battery for your KLR, I would highly reccomend the Deca, fits perfect with no mods and you can ditch the vent tube... Win/Win! :D

Amen! Once you get an AGM, sealed battery, you will never go back to the vented batteries! Thanks for the good review, Stew. :)

That's the type of battery I fit in The Dirt Rat. It worked great but WILL leak a bit if you mount it sideways. In a normal position you're good to go, and as you mentioned no vent tube. :D

I miss The  Dirt Rat.

I sold it to but the PP400.

Oh well, that mastake cost me less than my divorce at any rate. 8O

Come on, Brother Bill; you had fun with the PP LXT400! ;) Also, the Dirt Rat got a good home with a nice young man who will take good care of it. :) You can repent by purchasing the Zong in Yakima. 8)

Yup, I got it from aviciouscycle.com in Ontario... I love that place, fantastic service and light speed shipping :). I found out about them when I was searching for tires last summer, nobody in the States would ship tires to Canada so I had to source Canadian retailers. Only problem with the battery was when I opened the box (battery was in it's box inside another box) they had put the battery box in upside down! Lol, it said "Other side up" and whoever packaged it probably had a quick glance and thought it said "This side up". No leakage though and it spins the KLR over like theres no tomorrow. Cool post design too! It doesn't use those little nuts that fall out and can have the cables connected to the side or top as required. Oh, guess I spelt it wrong, it's Deka :D

Wow, made in USA! How does the wire attach? Does it have studs that clamp the wire in place, like a large set screw?

Oh, that red thing on the positive terminal is just a holder thingamabob that holds the screws and brass spacers... The actual terminals are threaded on the top (for conventional hookup) and on the side for a side post hookup. The spacers are used when you are using the side post configuration. So basically you connect it up like a regular motorcycle battery, you just don't have to worry about losing the fiddly nuts :D. The KLR's have a tendancy to kind of overcharge their batteries so a conventional battery needs to be checked and topped up on occasion, with this AGM battery I can just slap it in and forget it's there. It came highly recommended and A Vicious Cycle actually used to carry the Odyssey battery but dropped it from the line when they started selling the Deka's.

I've heard good things concerning the Deka batteries, Stew. :) These batteries are made near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. ;)
