this is bull^%$$##!!!

take my 02 blazer in for air care because the insurance expires tomorow at midnight and they charge me $45 to tell me it failed and no you don't get your money back but one you pay the hundreds of dollars to fix it then you can come back and re-test it and pay another $23 for that...thank you so much air care for not only costing me who knows how much but also for the two days work that i am going to loose because this is my only transportation.

How exactly is it their fault that your vehicle failed?

I don't know how things work in the great North...but here there are a lot of private companies doing government inspections. But they're extremely regulated. They don't get to charge frivolously...actually there's a reason why vehicle inspections in the US cost $14.50USD whether you get it done at Jiffy Lube or at a Ferrari dealership. It's also my responsibility to make sure my vehicle will pass all the requirements...not Jiffy Lube's.

I'm just curious how it works up there. Does Air Care send people out to sabotage your car?

I'm grateful we don't have top deal with that sort of thing out here either. It would make me livid.

the bullsh-- is that this system was bought from the calli gov because they banned it there and the bc gov saw a cash cow....it has nothing to do with making the environment better as there are vehicles (and i have owned some) that pass with holes in the mufflers, cats cut out and I even know of one that had the side exhaust dumps open and still passed and all they do to my vehicle (because it is newer) is plug in a obd reader and tell you it failed because of this or that and they never put the probe in the tail pipe or ran it on the dyno. the damn truck runs great and no blue smoke like some that i see. and now because of this it is going to cost me a few hun to get it to their liking so i can insure.

A couple of tips:

1. Go to the AirCare in Chilliwack. Your cat will be properly heated by the time you get there, and you'll be more likely to pass.

2. Buy yourself a cheap scanner. I bought the deluxe version for $130.00 because I can download updates online, but the $80.00 version is fine. Not only will it help you diagnose trouble when the Check Engine light comes on, it will tell you if it's going to pass AirCare. It's available at Princess or Can Tire.

3. Change oil and filters before you go (including the air filter).

weld....they do not do a test like that this truck does not go on the dyno all they do is read codes and it either passes or fails no dyno and no emissions test

Did they tell you what codes it threw?

Hi midlifekrisiz

Weld suggested a scanner... get one or go to someone you know that has one. A better one that will erase the codes... erase them, drive the vehicle to the AirCare place & have them re-test it.

Problem could be if the vehicle was ever repaired someone may not have erased old codes & they will still show up even if the issue was repaired. This could be why the vehicle is failing.

yes....one was for the o2 sensor (have purchased a new one and get it installed today) the other two codes were for the evac system (been told that might have been caused because of not enuff fuel in the tank for pressure).
getting it taken care of today.

the problem with this is they can tell that you have re-set the codes and will not test the vehicle .....getting the o2 sensor replaced today and all should be good after that.

Perhaps I didn't explain myself properly.

A good scanner will perform the same function as the AirCare equipment. Just plug it in under the dash and it will tell you if you're going to pass or fail, and it will tell you any relevant trouble codes. It uses the same technology as AirCare. That's what I do, and like you, I have a post-'96 vehicle that doesn't get measured on the AirCare dyno.

Hi midlifekrisiz

Correct... that is why you need to drive the vehicle after the codes are re-set. We have just about the same thing here in Ohio called E-Check. {LMAO~!!!} Once the vehicle is repaired the codes should be re-set, the vehicle driven for a certain amount of time & re-tested.

Weld, I saw in the princess flyer today a code reader on for I think $30, regular 80....

My car is a 97 but I think it went on the dyno...

All post-'96 cars are reported to be OBDII, but my buddy's '97 F-150 isn't. maybe yours isn't as well. If the OBDII scanner plugs into your ALDL port, it's definitely OBDII, and it should not go on the rollers.
