A few years back I bought two Jap bikes off of a scrap metal pile. They were inline to hit the crusher.Usually the place doesn't let go of anything that makes it passed the sorter.Fortunately, the guy that runs the place is into old bikes and occasionally lets stuff go.I got dang lucky that day.I bought them for parts bikes to keep mine going. One has a bad frame from a wreck. The other one has a good frame. Now I have decided to try and title the good frame, rebuild the bike, and go from there. So,has anyone ever used titling agency and can recommend a good quick service?I've started on the bike, but I am reluctant to finish.I don't wanna buy parts unless I know I can sell or ride it.

I also have a frame that has an out of state title, and I can't find the guy that sold the frame to me.I bought the frame years ago, when SC didn't require notarized BOS and titles on out of state bikes. Now I can't title the frame in my name.I really shouldn't procrastinate.

Are you talking about bonded titles? Its pretty simple in GA to title 1985 and older vehicles.

Bonded titles are can be done.

Maybe.A few people on some other forums have use titling services to get titles for abandoned vehicles, written off vehicles(insurance I assume),and vehicles that are older and didn't have titles,MCO,MSO from the manufacturer.I've been searching and can't find the forum where I read the info.

Thanks.I looked into title services and the cheapest I found cost more than the bikes I am trying to title in my name.I was shocked to say the least.

I wanted to add this after reading the links you posted. One service wants me to send them a notarized BOS certified mail.$35 for that. Then they would register the bike in their business name and receive a registration. They would in turn send me the registration and a new BOS for $995.With this,I am supposed to be able to title the bike.Problem is,SC requires a notarized title on ALL vehicles purchased out of state. So I still wouldn't be able to title the bike in SC.So I'd still be screwed to the floor. Damn gooberment.

What year bike are you trying to title?

1990 Frame with out of state title and no notarized bill of sale from where the bike was last registered.I have two others that I'd like to get titles for. They were written off by insurance companies because they were wrecked soon after purchase.A VIN check revealed this.I bought the right off a scrap pile that was about to be crushed.I mentioned these two in my first post.

I would offer to try to register here, but that is too new.

Dig really hard in your State DOT website. I found that there is a provision where I live to obtain the title of a bike or car, assuming it hasn't been stolen.

I learned the process from Jim. I had to fill out a specific document, have it notarized and send it off with the requisite $7.00 fee. They do a search and provide the name of the last known registered owner, and they give instructions on contacting the person and asking for the title. If the person signs it over, it's yours. If they don't do anything and 30 days pass, it's yours. If it's returned as undeliverable, it's yours.

If there's no previous owner on file, then you need to have the vehicle inspected (around $100.00), and then you'll be issued the title. I was quite surprised to learn all of this, and from everyone I've spoken with, it's not common knowledge.

SC had a loop hole like that in the 80's.To many stolen bikes were getting through,so SC promptly shut the door on that.

We have a website in Canada that links Canadian police services, and it allows us to search nationwide for stolen vehicles. Armed with that info, we can proceed (in BC at least) with a title request.

Perhaps you have a similar site.
