Okay the bike I am looking at is from what I have been told an American Lifan GY20-2. I think it is an 06 model, but it new. My wide said I can buy it but I need to part all my other bikes out on ebay first.

I am wondering what the difference is if any. Not that it will really change my mind. The bike I am looking at has the tach, inverted forks, f/r discs and I believe it had the OHC engine, but I need to confirm that as I didn't look.

Overall looked like a decent bike in need of tweaking. I plan to upgrade some things after the initial shakedown/breakage of stuff.

It is fully assemble, but who really knows if they did any locktiting or greasing.

Well I need to concentrate on getting $1500 in my paypal account to buy it. I take donations  . Take alot of old bike part sales to get there.

Thanks, Allen, hopefully a china rider real soon.

if you search through the ds forum there is already 2 or 3 topics with this title (or subject matter).

They are basicly the same, from my understanding... but the gy2 has a lower seat height and smaller tank. Different plastic. And maybe the battery box is not as good?

And most of them don't have inverted forks, they have the rubber coil boot style...

Thanks, so the gy-5 is basically the newer model or upgrade model. I am trying to make some bargaining points when I go to purchase. I think I can get the seller to let it go for alot less than $1500.

GY-2 does have inverted forks. The frame "looks" older because its black instead of silver. The rear sprocket is larger so it doesn't go nearly as fast on the top end. The seat height is lower, no hand guards. And they are discontinuing the GY-2. Other than that they are basicly the same bike, but I like the looks of the 5 much better.

Thanks. More bargaining points. I am hoping to get for $1200. The sprocket is easy to change. That will probably be my first mod. I need to stop in and check it out again and do a closer inspection. I think he may let it go for that price.

Look around and do your research. I could be wrong but I believe there are GY-5's, 2007 models selling for 1300-1500...no reseason to pay 1500 for a 2006 GY-2. Or at least use as bargaining tool for the GY-2 you want.

Good luck!

Yes, if I can't get it for $1200 or less then I plan to go a different route. I am looking at one of the viva's shipped to my house. I am fully capable of assembling one and it also gives me the chance to perform some upgrades right away.

The only adantage is the bike is assembled and the dealer being right there for any problems, but it is a harley shop so who knows if they cared about assembling a china bike and backing it up. It was the only one he had at his shop too so it makes me think that the sales didn't do well for him.

It is still there and I am in no hurry.

Chinabike being sold at a Harley shop?! You have to take a picture of that!

It is a custom harley shop and not a franchised dealer. It is still just the opposite of what you would expect for a harley shop. I think he is getting tired of it sitting if front of his shop and not selling. I am waiting him out and will probably go with it if he takes me offer.

I will get picks and if he turns out to be a true lifan dealer I will post his info for any in the Atlanta area.
