Welcome!

I've dealt with both vendors, although I've never bought a bike from PR, only parts. The bike that PR had in the beginning was known as a Hummer. It had steel wheels (unlike aluminum Gio wheels), but they were 21" / 19", vs. Gio with a 19" / 16" combo. The Hummer had a much larger tank ( I believe that is still the case). Gio now sells a large wheel version of their original bike.

Typically, most guys that bought a Gio modified the airbox to accept a Uni pod filter, but that was about it. The exhaust, while loud, certainly doesn't need much improvement in flow. The only thing I can think of that I would do right away would be to toss out the cheesy kill switch and replace it with a typical Jap bike push button.

My guess is that a Gio will cost less because they can be purchased at auction. I haven't seen the PR offering in some time, so I'm not sure what they're like today. I'd feel good about the parts availability from Gio, since their site is becoming well developed.

A buddy of mine bought the XTM250 from PR and said it was a solid bike no problems thus far....

I agree with Weldangrind that parts are more accessible with GIO but you will pay through the nose for shipping if you live past Alberta...and that since they are importing from X-Motos it may be a better product!

I would do your research and read past posts of problems people had with there bikes and buy the usual parts like Cables, brake pads, ect and upgrade your fuel line, air filter,CDI ect...

This is a great site for info...

Plugs, chains, sprockets, etc can all be purchased locally. All you need to do is research the item you're after. This site will guide you towards the correct NGK plug, but you'd need to measure your sprockets and check out www.jtsprockets.com . They'll likely be able to provide a replacement front or rear sprocket in a variety of sizes.

Most of the Honda clone engines use a washable filter that is located on the lower left side of the engine. The Yamaha clones (like Spud's Zong) use a washable filter also, and the Yamaha part is a direct replacement. The XTM looks like a typical eighties Honda clone, meaning that parts will be easy to find.

If you purchase an XTM, it might be wise to buy a set of plastics right away; who knows for how long you'll be able to find that specific style.
