I have a dealer close by who sells Roketa Scooters, and he likes them and has handled them for several years. I don't know much about them so I thought I would ask you all. He seems to have good luck with them and is getting ready to order a big number for the season. Anyone have any experience with Roketa? He says parts are fast and easy to get.

Ok......lets put the link up:

http://www.roketa.com/index.shtml

One Chinese scooter is much like another, the important thing is: that you have a dealer close by that stands behind his product.

In the 50cc range the 4 stroke scooters just plain suck. With a whopping 2.2hp 30mph is downhill with a tail wind. Unless you are in love with something buy a used Zuma/BWS (2 cycle 4hp, very slight mods=6hp, claims of 20hp on heavily modded engines).

The 150cc range is the air cooled GY6 motor (count on about 8hp) 50-55mph.

The 250cc range is the vertical water cooled direct Honda knock-off (count on about 12hp) 60-65mph.

I'm not sure what you are asking. As I said: with a dealer near by you have any purchase "made in the shade". Scootering is not for everyone, quality, low mileage, used, Japanese scooters exist in almost every market. I would buy a $500 Zuma before I bought a $1300 Chinese 50cc scooter. As the displacement numbers increase a used 150cc Honda (for $1000) beats a $2200 150cc Chinese scooter.

That was very interesting and helpful. I am hoping to hear from a few with actual experience. The price on these is good and they have been around for a while now. I think I am lucky to have the dealer so close. My sister is considering one, and I will pass on what I learn.

You are going to hear horror stories about Chinese product/scooters. A simple Google search for "Roketa scooters" will yield you pages of hits. There was a fellow on here on about Baja scooters being "bad", he did not seem prepared to look after the thing himself, and when things went wrong, due to poor service, he was not happy with the warranty. You have to go into the thing with an open mind. It helps to consider Chinese product as "a work in progress", rather than a finished product. Maybe, with an experienced dealer so close you may realize "turn key" ownership, most buy over the internet, expecting "ready to go product", which is not exactly the case.

I have a female neighbor that would like to own a scooter. Unless I am prepared to service/look after it, I could not recommend a Chinese scooter, of any make. I know if she buys a Yamaha/Honda they will look after her.

Personally I own a Yamaha Zuma/BWS, bought used, it is virtually indestructible, but not without some work. I would not buy a Chinese 50cc scooter of ANY make/type (primarily because they are slow). I own a GY6 150cc Chinese motor (new) that I will be making something with this summer.

Personally, when it comes to 50cc 4-stroke scooters I don't think I'd touch any of them (Japanese or Chinese). Simply too little power for something that hits the street. It'd be great for a trailer park, campground, racing pits, etc.., but that's it.

I'd guess all Chinese scooters are pretty much the same you I'd go with what you can get support for, and back up the local guy. Sounds like a winner.

In the state of Wisconsin, we can ride the 50 CC on the street with a few less restrictions. There is no requirement to have a special cycle license. They have a few other privileges also. I encourage anyone who buys a Chinese machine to have a willing mechanical aptitude.

That's a requirement for being in our club! Very Happy
