Here's a slight route deviation to avoid I-15. I've seen minivans and honda civics on this route.

Brilliant. So it takes you up to Wrightwood and then you go down Sheep Creek to the 138 right??

The route you are talking about will add 11.6 miles.

The route I'm talking about is as follows:

From US 66 you turn left onto Swarthout Canyon Road.

Swarthout Canyon Road will take you to Lone Pine Canyon Road.

At Lone Pine Road you can turn right towards the 138 or turn left towards Wrightwood.

Lone Pine Canyon Road ends where it meets CA 138.

Turning left towards Wrightwood will add 11.6 miles to the route.

Hope that cleared up things a little.

So, my Impreza would make it without any issues? :lmao:

I knew a gal from up there; actually two gals from Grass Valley. Small world

I took this alternate route yesterday after work and it was awesome! The road appears well travelled, lots of washboard. No problem for a DS though!

Sweet! I was planning on doing the whole route myself to make sure everything is kosher. I've been busy giving my TT some much needed TLC so I haven't had time. I also have a new GPS I want to try out.

I posted on facebook. Two guys said they would go and two more said maybe. That makes it 4 confirmed and two maybes. I will remind everyone about the ride two weeks prior and see if we have more takers. I plan on taking pictures and video of the trip. Then I'll see about putting together a youtube video or something.

Is this related to your planned route? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZU7Mnx-I3g

Yes it is. We will be tourist for the day. :D
The Summit Inn was also known for serving an omelet made from one ostrich egg. One ostrich egg equals about 24 chicken eggs. Ate there a few times but never had the ostrich omelet. Sad to see landmarks disappear like that.

Are you guys still on for Saturday?

Essayons 05-13-2021 07:22 PM

Yes, the ride is still on. So far it's three of us from this forum. From facebook there is 1 confirmed and 1 maybe. Still open to anyone wanting to surprise us Saturday morning.

Weather forecast for this Saturday looks great. I drove the upper half of the route last week (Summit Inn to the 138) without any surprises.

I am thinking of getting out to Northridge this weekend; maybe take a couple days off work ('all work and no play makes culcune a dull boy') and be the chase car. Even if you don't want one, might just force my way into your ride :lmao:

LOL! You can follow us like those Tour de France cars.

I'm already planning another one in June/July. One a month would be nice.

I can imagine bumping into some riders while handing cups of water to some other riders. Wow, with all these rides planned, you might be convincing me to move back to the L.A. area

We're going to have to work on getting a sponsor if this keeps up. :hehe:
