Lifan KPT400

1 Attachment(s)
Well it looks like Lifans next new bike to come to the US is the 2024 KPT400. I know they are going through EPA certification right now and should be available by next summer. This bikes will have all the bells and whistles. Here's an article on the KPT400. I guess I better start saving my money. lol

That beats everything in its class currently available! CSC, KTM, Royal Enfield will have to up their game.

wheelbender6 11-04-2022 08:48 PM

I had seen some press releases. I'm glad they are finally producing it.

wheelbender6 11-06-2022 05:22 PM

"VisorDown reports that Lifan KPT 400 will set you back around £3,500 (around $4,770)"

Lifans are usually priced a good bit higher than other China bikes. If the VisorDown report is correct, the KPT 400 could be a huge sales success.

I could live with the odd styling at that price.

JerryHawk250 11-06-2022 05:44 PM

I'm told with the higher cost of shipping from China they will be in the $5000 - $5500 range. I've been binge watching KPT 400 video all weekend. Lol The only problem I couldn't understand any of the Chinese. Lol

I was looking on the EPA list of motorcycles and it is no longer listed. Have you heard anything from Venom?

It never was listed. Venom is still waiting for Lifan to get EPA approval.

my money would still be with the Himalayan, particularly if this bike is over the 5k mark. In comparisons with the CSC model, the Himalayan was better off-road. so the question in my mind is how far off the road do you intend to get. I'm still leaning used KLR650 though. :)

This might interest you more. Moto Morini X-Cape. Supposedly coming to the US. https://motomorini.eu/bike/x-cape/?lang=en

I'm seriously waiting on this bike. I want an RX4 really bad, but I'm more than willing to pay a little extra to get the Lifan quality. But, if it doesn't come with the luggage, the RX4 will be my choice.

It will probably less than the RX4. CSC likes to add about a grand in fees. The bike is supposed to come fully loaded with aluminum luggage.

Oh, I'm excited, now!! I need to hurry up and start making space. lol.

Okierider 01-27-2023 09:44 PM

I really just want a 350-450cc dual sport.
Something like my Templar but with 30-40 horse.
These ADV bikes just look to big for my tastes.
Aesthetically pleasing though.

Sport Rider 01-30-2023 08:54 AM

Yep.....a KPX400 would be about right.

JerryHawk250 01-30-2023 09:04 AM

Unfortunately one of the guys at American Lifan over the weekend told me it doesn't look like the KPT 400 will be available before the summer. Herbie and I are planning a trip along the Gulf Coast. I guess I'll have to rig out the Vulcan S for the trip unless I run across another bike I like. Don't get me wrong. The Vulcan S is a comfortable bike. Just don't know how comfortable it will be after a couple of thousand miles. lol

That's exactly why I bought the DRZ. After both the RX3's, and the V-Strom, I realized I didn't need (or want) all that Tupperware, baggage, storage and additional weight. I got really tired of stripping hunks of plastic off just for normal maintenance. I just don't ride that far or long anymore. Four hours out is an average day.

JerryHawk250 10-02-2023 09:20 AM

So I got an update on EPA approval on the KPT 400. Looks like they finally got everything worked out. I'm being told they will be available March/April 2024.

About 495 lbs. American Lifan is the importer and will be sold through dealers like Venommotorsports.

JerryHawk250 11-03-2023 02:24 PM

too heavy for me I reckon. I've fallen once and almost a couple of times trying to turn around on crappy roads. maybe once I get better at riding, but man it looks heavy!

It weighs the same as my Vulcan S. The Vulcan S feels light.

outboardr 11-06-2023 09:47 PM

Jerry, I don't see it on the epa list? Now this list apparently from August, so if in testing right now that would explain its absence.

I must be the only one to think, "Oh HELL NO!". That bike looks ugly AND top heavy. Somebody spiked the designer's coffee with LSD. I think they're first offering in this size should be a more traditional design, then offer something wild like this the following year.

That's the best part.. it looks like an old Honda scooter, or a Pan America from Wish lol.

Thumper 02-09-2024 07:27 AM

Add some gear into the luggage and fill'er up and you are looking at 600 lbs, plus your weight. Gee.
That seems on the heavy side for adventure sport, isn't it? And the weight is high centered. I don't think I could pick it up

JerryHawk250 02-09-2024 08:05 AM

Why is everyone freaking out about the weight? What are you comparing it to? Looks like it falls into the same weight class. :hmm:

Kpt 400 - 495 lbs with luggage
Yamaha TÉNÉRÉ 700-452 lbs + luggage
V-Strom 650-528 lb. including Luggage
VERSYS 650 LT 482.9 lb* + luggage
AFRICA TWIN -505 lbs + luggage

Thumper 02-09-2024 01:24 PM

Don't get me wrong. I am sure it is great as a road bike, perfect for light touring and some forest roads.
The vertical twin engine looks like fun, and the bike is loaded with features.

I like it, lol, it looks like something Robocop would ride.

in this lightweight ADV and Dual Sport category, EVERYONE is preoccupied with weight. with my KLR, everyone talks about how heavy it is compared to xxx, blah, blah, blah. Coming from larger bikes I just scratch my head and wonder if everyone riding these bikes are 90 pound weaklings or something. Just pick the dang bike up and keep going.

the other bikes you list are not in the same category as the KPT. Himalayan, CSC's 450, KTM 390 ADV, Maybe Triumph Scrambler, Honda CB500x.

Here's an interesting read regarding light weight ADV bikes. But just keep in mind that these guys don't care about price. Some people are just rich. :D
https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/a...0-lbs.1333329/

BTW....my KLR (gen 1) is listed as 412 pounds. Not sure if the KPT is with equipment or not.

Side note regarding the Lifan....that is one UGLY front end. And I would not want hard bags. they break legs. ;)
