Hey all,
Im John. i live in michigan USA. i love anything with an engine. never owned any bikes, but ive owned plenty of 4 wheelers. my main project right now is a 1970 chevelle. built a 468 big block and modified a newer 4l80 trans to shift manually without a computer. so im pretty good with the mechanical side of things. I got these two bikes from my uncle. he had them in his barn and the barn fell on them. they are dirty and a little banged up. They need tires and tubes. carb cleaned, and fuel lines. but i got one running. it'll run with choke on and me revving it up. but wont idle or stay running when i let off choke or throttle. I dont know anything at all about them. The Viva vx200sn doesnt really come up often on my searches. My search keeps going though. cant beat free so worse case i can probably sell for parts. but id like to get one on the road. |
i dont know what year these are either

Welcome! Its all about the carbs. Get the original carbs cleaned up or even better buy new matching replacement carbs. They're only $30.00 on Ebay or Amazon. Fresh gas and I bet your good to go. Did your Uncle give you any back story on where he got the bikes?

Welcome; we are glad you joined us. :hi:
Indeed, free is the best price. |
Ya, he is an electrician. He took them in on trade for some work. But beyond that I know nothing.

I appreciate the input guys! Thanks |
Those are decent little bikes, and well worth some time and attention. They have a few features that I appreciate, like a round headlight and wide saddle. Please show us a close-up pic of the motor.
Most of the folks around here have already predicted that I would recommend a new Mikuni carb, instead of resurrecting the stock carbs. A new Mikuni is cheap to your door, and replacement jets are easy to find. I'm gonna need to hear more about your A body! Please start a thread on it in our Off-Topic/General Discussion forum. |

As soon as I get back out in the shop I'll grab some closer pics. I'll definitely post a thread about the Chevelle! |

That's the tried and true CG motor, which uses pushrods instead of an overhead cam. What'll blow your mind is that there is only one cam lobe, and it bumps both valves in sequence. Change the oil and set the valves, and it'll be dead reliable.

Glad to hear it's reliable. I'm really looking forward to using it in the summer to drive to work. |
