Okay all you enablers. I got 2 bikes.

One 1970 CT70. Pretty much bought me a frame here.

One 1982 z50r. This is at least rolling. Been here it whole life. Has a sticker that says "Cycle World, Athens, GA"

All for a grand total of $15.

AWESOME! All I can think is, "Hello. This is Larry at Hooper Imports. Which engines can I sell you today?"

I think China Inc makes everything ou'll need. IIRC even the seats.

Good deal! :P

This site has pretty much everything for the 70, http://hondaminitrail.com/ct70.html

FastDoc 11-02-2010 11:48 AM

A quick scan of that excellent website made me laugh. I founf this:

Cylinder, 70cc marked 49cc, really neat for tricking all of the competors. *

That looks like a complete bike to me. It seems to have a custom bend on the lower fork tubes; aerodynamics maybe?

$15.00? You won. You could part them out for considerably more (please don't).

Any guesses on how much ca$h it'll take Kato to get the 70 into riding shape? :D

FastDoc 11-02-2010 12:49 PM

$450.

Jim 11-02-2010 01:25 PM

I think Doc is right, I would guess between 300 and 500, but no idea really.

FastDoc 11-02-2010 01:38 PM

I bet any engine on this page will work.

$300-$400

I'd go with the 140, myself...

Weldangrind 11-02-2010 01:47 PM

While 140cc would be fun, Reveeen says that reliability concerns arise above 125cc. IMHO, anything over 125cc needs to be cooled. Besides, 125 Pit Bikes are everywhere on CL for cheap, so I'm sure that Kato could find a good donor that's been crashed.

FastDoc 11-02-2010 01:59 PM

So, with that price in mind IF he needs a new motor, adding in sundry extra stuff, for a mechanical (not cosmetic also) restoration, including shipping, etc. I raise my estimate to $550. :D

But who knows, it may run the way it is, or with some simple tune up stuff.

Darn thing is a Honda, after all.

And dsrt14 had a 140 on his trail 70 and said the lighting circuit wasnt up to par. He might have it for sale still cheap.
I think this is mor of a racing engine.

SpudRider 11-02-2010 02:49 PM

Resistance was futile. ;) For a grand total of $15, you scored big, Allen! :)

Spud :)

Many years ago when I was a puppy in NJ, a friend had 2 little Honda 50's. Looked about the same as your 70. 3 speed transmissions, automatic clutch. We had SO MUCH fun on those for years. They were worn and tired even then, and his kid brother (about 16 at the time) rebuilt them both.

Good memories!

katoranger 11-02-2010 05:05 PM

The 70 will need almost everything. I took a pic of the good side.

So the plan will be to sell the stock engine and use to funds to for forks, triple clamp and probably new stem bearings.

Will need a seat, wiring harness, speedo, all lights, levers, tires, brakes, cables.

FastDoc 11-02-2010 05:07 PM

Does it seem like the current engine will run?
