My Zong 150GY and Ride Log

Here's the thread i'd probably fill in with pics of my zong, and ride stories.... Basically to share anything about her, from my touches and to anywhere it will lead us through....
Thanks to SPUD for reminding me... I'm from the Philippines by the way...

Here she is, when she got home about 4 weeks ago.... I removed the decals by the way, and the first 5kms was already spicy.
I already got a chines cruiser about 10 years ago and this one surely is different form cosmetics to engine vibration to throttle response....

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...Motard3png.jpg

well, i really wanted a dirt bike, but looking i liked this version better... the retard, err the motard - thinking i could easily change the tires immediately...

'good thing the first weekend, it wasn't raining so it was ok to bring her up nearby hills... off-road style!
and sure enough i wasn't disappointed...

i think i cracked her first 400kms break-in ride that weekend... it was an excellent kick-off!

jeremy2011 10-16-2011 04:34 AM

2nd weekend was another story...
all pumped up i went to mixed road-off road terrains... the more i like this kind of riding... the more i fell in love with this zong...
o yeah, a few minor glitches but simply were repairable all the while...

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...1/PA010348.jpg

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q.../Picture19.jpg

but a few rubbing pulled it off... so to speak, all were repairable.

jeremy2011 10-16-2011 04:47 AM

3rd weekend is thyphoon weekend so we had to park...
but i did pulled in a 100km ride....

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...1/PA010325.jpg

this weekend, i was not alone anymore.
my mountain bike buddies also started motorcycling... here's the zong with DRZ and KLX:

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...1/PA150660.jpg

the zong ride harder with them both... and i love how she performed on road and on mud and potholes....

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...1/PA150656.jpg

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...1/PA150674.jpg

now the zong has over a thousand kms old... break-in period is over, and 'am happy to say this bike came out more than i expected...

i also started removing unwanted parts, i removed the rear and teh decals etc...

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...1/PA160689.jpg

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...1/PA160690.jpg

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...1/PA160691.jpg

...am still wanting that off road tires still, but getting one for the same rim set is getting dimmer - the local CST dealer phased-out the ones recommended by SPUD...
so more likely to gor changing the wheelset to 18 and 21 pair....

Thanks for starting the new thread, Jeremy. :) Your Zong looks great! Can you tell us, what is your top speed, and what is your fuel mileage with this motorcycle?

Spud :)

Hi Spud...

This bike runs top on 110kph (68.3mph), easily cruising at 80kph (49.7mph)...

Consumption is 33 to 37kms per liter... about 125 to 140kms per gallon.

Beautiful machine! The super motos are looking more like sport bikes these days; it's a very good look.

Do you plan on any modifications?

Thanks...

I have only a short list for modifications, but i guess i won't be doing them that soon except the tires to be dirt friendly:
1. new tires, as i have said but chance is slim to get a pair to fit in the current set...
1.1 plan to convert if 1 fails (until next 2 months at least)- 18" R rear and 21" R front... dirt wheels.
2. sprocket combo for that torque need on trail
3. racing CDI (?) - to get that extra juice maybe...
4. handle bars - mid-rise and wider maybe....

Beautiful machine. Thanks for taking the time to share the pictures with us. How fast is the 150 on the road?

good point... she's 110kph now.
i mentioned the CDI to probably improve her but it's one of the last to be done... least to consider - they say 140 to 150 can still be...
for her purpose, less likely to go for...

As the late, beloved, Brother Phil Hall reported, this water cooled, 150cc, ZS150GY-10 engine appears to produce power approaching that of my air cooled, 196 cc, ZS200GY-2 engine. ;) I think Zongshen produced a winner with this bike. :) The fit and finish of this motorcycle appears to be excellent! Please keep posting more photographs, Jeremy. :D

Thank you for posting the nice closeup photos, Jeremy! You Zong seems to be very well manufactured; it looks great. :D Is the fuel gauge accurate? I really like your instrument cluster!

If you remove the seat and/or plastic, please post more closeup photos of your "naked" Zong! :)

Spud :)

jeremy2011 10-18-2011 05:25 AM

Spud, not my shots but just to show:

Thank you for the additional photos; please keep posting more! :D

You bike appears to be very well manufactured. Is the bike built as well as it appears? How do you like your bike? Do you do your own maintenance? Have you owned other motorcycles?

Spud :)
