Problems with electric starter

Hi

Have an interesting situation, which someone may be able to solve.

My bike (sky team v-retro 250) starts first time on electric start, when cold, but needs a kick start on subsequent starts after it has been running for a while.

I get a click, click sound, which I first thought was the solenoid. Got a new solenoid and recently had the battery checked and charged with no problems found.

So I'm not really sure what the problem is, any suggestions?

regards

Mark

Try opening the cap of the bendix on the left-hand cover to see if all is OK there. Maybe something gets blocked when hot there.

My guess would be your startermotor is on its last leg... Similar to a car starteronce it gets warm and doesnt want to crank over...

I still think it's the battery. It can read 12+ volts and still not make the amps under load. May also be connections but most likely the battery itself.

May also be weak charging system. Measure battery voltage with engine off and revving. Should go up from about 12 to about 13.8 volts.

My VN800 does the quick clicking sound when the battery is weak also. So maybe the battery is not being charged correctly by the generator? When you ride it, the battery is being drained by the lights etc.
One way to test if the generator is working is: When you press the electric starter, if the light dims then the generator works. That would explain why it only starts with the kick starter when its warm.
