Burnt pants?

Hey guys n' gals, anyone have any ideas why my right pants leg keeps getting burnt from the engine clutch side cover? I've now got 3 pairs of pants with holes burned through and only 50 miles on the odometer. The clutch doesn't slip and everything sounds normal. TIA

Check the temp of that cover after a few miles. Are you really sure it isn't the exhaust pipe??!!!

Stupid question, but that is a wet clutch!

It's probably the exhaust. I have header wrap on mine for that reason lol.

Yeah, for sure the header, I buy a heat shield for mine to stop that...
Something like this...

Is your engine running lean? Your carb may need a new jet. Leaned out engines run hot.

I installed one of these on each of my TT250's. It makes a HUGE difference on how much heat hits my right leg!!!

That does seem like the most logical explanation.

It must be the exhaust. The oddest thing is that the hole is in the exact same spot on all 3 pairs of pants. Just above the hem on the vertical seam, about ankle height. I couldn't envision how that spot would get tight on the exhaust behind the frame tubes but it must.

Let's just chalk this up as another senior moment. My bad.

Thanks! It might still be a little lean but I did increase the pilot and main jets by one step each and added two 0.5mm washers on the needle. It appears that a heat shield or header wrap should resolve the issue.
:thanks:

Are you sure the wind isn't just shoving/pulling your pants towards the exhaust while riding? Maybe try a tighter fit around the ankle pair or tucking your pants into a pair of boots. They even make these weird straps that go under your shoes and clamp onto your jeans to keep them in place lol

Velcro pant straps for bicyclists. Fixed or stretchy from Amazon.

I used to have a pair of metal clips that pushed on from the front, and held my pants snug while I commuted to school in Albuquerque. The velcro straps are different but serve the same purpose.
