Travel "owners" ADV guide for fellow Zong owners

Thanks Spud. If, (like on the Cummins Turbodiesel truck site) people sign up and input first, then use it, it will grow into a fantastic resource. The Turbo Diesel Guide has saved my A$$ 3 or 4 times from a tow or service bill. I only needed a shop space once, but it sure was better than on the dirt (which was wet from rain:)! The fellow members "moral support" and handing me tools, ferrying me to the store etc, was REALLY handy!

SInce 2 persons already volunteered this type help for my ride back to ALabama with the new rX-3, I figure there are many others Like me (and you) who will gladly help other traveling ZOng owners in need of some help, place to stay/camp, and or assistance repairing (or maintaining) their motorcycles. SOme will eventually have a spare parts bike or 3, possibly, if like the dodge forum members! Thats REALLY helpfull to keep on the road...borrow (or buy) a used part from the listed person, then either return it when the ordered part arrives, or you source one used, or buy that part, if for sale... Having a paved AND Heated shop would make a HUGE difference in even maintaining bikes this time of year! (if crazy enough to be adv riding in the cold!:) hehe

thillskier 01-27-2015 06:52 AM

Heated shop...

By the way, everyone, my engine/shop area is oops IS HEATED:)! and fan cooled in Summer when needed:)!

katoranger 01-27-2015 09:14 AM

No heat or air in mine. I have a fan.

thillskier 01-27-2015 01:17 PM

The A/C in mine is a fan as well;)!

ALL l I can afford is a fan, esp with Summer power bill! hehe Cooling my house is expense enough:)!

The box stove I got used for $50.00 from a co-op. The scraps from work are the fuel, and some firewood from fallen wood scruff around the property is great and fits my budget also:). The old single wall stove pipe runs through the wall and a steel collar (so the wall doesn't contribute to the heat;)! NOT a good thing...

Besides, a concrete or wood floor is all that is really needed....AFter too many times road side, on wet muddy ground, numb dirty fingers dropping everything, just not having that wind blast and a dry floor, that is HEAVEN to me)!

katoranger 01-27-2015 05:03 PM

Its dry and a concrete floor.

thillskier 01-27-2015 08:44 PM

Dry is Good! (So is level)!!

As we all know, the Zongshen RX3 doesn't have a kick starter. If the battery dies and you are not located on a nice slope, you will probably have trouble getting the motorcycle started. ;) Therefore, it might be a good idea to purchase a portable jump starter. This device can jump start your automobile as well as your motorcycle, and it can provide power to charge your cell phone, et cetera, while traveling. One of the first portable jump starters introduced to North America was the Microstart XP-1, sold by Antigravity.

The operation of this device is demonstrated in the video below. ;)

The Microstart XP-1 has an MSRP of $159.95. However, you can buy this unit for $96, with free delivery, from Amazon. :)

Now you can also buy a Chinese version of the Microstart XP-1 for $84.99, with free delivery. :)

Nice, SPud.

Anyone know if EFI will function if trying to "jump start" our bikes oops I mean push start w/o a jump of electrons? (just from the stator)..

You can't have everything.

Yes, I believe you can bump start an EFI motorcycle, as long as the battery emf is not under 9 volts or so. As long as you have sufficient energy to power the fuel pump and electronics, you can start the bike and the charging system should keep the engine running until you stop the engine. The following posts support this conclusion. ;)

If the battery is completely dead, you will need a jump start from another vehicle, or you will need a portable jump starter such as the Antigravity Microstart. ;)

I did find this thread that seems to suggest a method for restoring the default ECU settings . Might be useful in the future.

It states
Quote:

EFI system recovery initialization requires five consecutive switch key (on then off i guess)
wait 15 seconds before restarting.

My Rx3 should be delivered to me next week :yay::yay: oh yeah! :yay::yay:

I was able to push start my Honda Grom when the battery had died. Of course, it didn't hold a charge, but I did get it to run.:)

Thats PIMP!. Not for me either. I would not mind a set of those street wheels, just to have them around. Congratulations on getting your bike!
