finally bought another Chinese bike..

After not owning a Chinese bike for 6 or 7 years..
I bought an Aprilla ETX150.. seems to made to a OK standard just because it is made in China Aprilla still requires a descant built quality.. Only things I do not like are only 5 gears and no kick starter.. The number one thing on my hit list is the silly side stand it folds up when the weight is taken of it... "Bloody silly KTM idea" Have almost dropped it twice because of it.. Factory spec say it dose 50km per liter and has a 18 liter tank 900 kms on a tank ?? real world would be closer to 700kms me thinks.. Trying to figger out what exactly the engine is has BYQ 162FMJ-4 on it.. Lifan ??? 2 valve OHC with balancer shaft.. They are sold in the UK under the Derby brand.. |
Nice to see you again Pete ! Nice looking bike too .

Wonder if they're selling them in the states?
|
@pete - glad to have you back. Some brief googling says it's Zongshen-Piaggio, which makes sense because they've been working together for a while, at least since the NC250 motor came out (it was a joint design), and Aprilia is a Piaggio brand.
@GlennR - it's not impossible, but highly improbable, Piaggio doesn't, imho, have a brand in the States where they would sell something like this, Aprilia, again imho, is seen too much as a premium brand to sell this model Stateside, even though they also sell scooters. Their other brands Stateside are Moto Guzzi, Vespa, and sometimes Piaggio themselves (like the MP3). I really don't see a place where it would fit in their lineup in the US, and it would probably be pretty expensive since all of those brands are "premium". My guess is this would be a $4-5k motorcycle there, in a displacement class no one would buy, with typical Piaggio parts availability, from "weeks away" to "never going to be shipped/arrive". |
Welcome back Pete! Nice looking bike.

Well, look what the cat dragged in! Nice looking bike, pete. That wacky automatic folding kickstand would drive me nuts.

Things have been a bit strange for the last year with all the crap in the world
I got stuck in Thailand for almost 12 months... Was unable to book a quarantine place in NZ till early December last year when I could fly back home.. just in time the money was starting to get very low.. While I was there I did not do much counting the money all the time not knowing when I could get back home.. Started working again so spent my last dollars on a new bike.. life is certainly not boring at the moment.. |
Well glad to see you're back home. Between Covid and Hurricane Ida, my world was turned upside down as well. All you can do is hit the grown running and hope you catch up.
|
Who would have thought...
300/17 and 350/17 .. 50/50 or 80/20 tires are are near impossible to find in NZ.. Knobbles and road are the only choice here at the moment.. . |
