Help with 2006 zongshen storm 250cc gs

Bought a zongshen storm.. Put a battery in and away I rode

After 3 days was riding and the bike shut off.. Started again then got it home.. Replaced the spark plug, coil and lead then it rode fine for a few more days then did it again.. Bike started again after a hour so o rode it home, waited a day to try it and it started first go

Anyone have a idea what is wrong

CDI would be my guess. They're cheap, so buy a couple.

Living in Australia it's a bit harder to get hold of a cdi

Is the cdi known for working then not working

katoranger 04-12-2013 07:19 AM

It does sound a CDI failure. Yes they are known to fail also.

This http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=3289740994 had English version. 1/3 of their customer is outside PRC. Simple written English is quite OK for that developer.

That developer's warning: some new model's pinout isn't as the "generic", you MUST know which wire = which function, otherwise ... http://www.motoyes.net/bbs/thread-534491-1-1.html

going by the picture of the plug you put up and using a test light while trying to start i get the following

1 - black/yellow - nothing
2 - green - nothing
3 - green - nothing
4 - blue/yellow - flashes
5 - empty
6 - white/black
7 - black/red - constant
8 - empty

I also suspect the CDI unit is failing. All of the Chinese CDI units are poorly manufactured. The CDI units usually exhibit intermittent failure for a few weeks before they die completely. ;) I suggest you order several spare CDI units from Taobao.

Weldangrind 04-14-2013 11:38 AM

The folks at www.tbtrends.com can help you with that. Just paste the link of the Taobao item you want into a tbtrends order form, and they'll take care of you.
