Let the mods begin on my Qlink XF200

I'm never one to leave my bikes stock but like to avoid any changes that are not easily reversed.

1" bar risers to get a little more room.

Swiped the muffler off my 125cc CT70 clone and stuck it on the XF200. I liked it after I reduced the noise by putting a baffle in it. It slipped right on the head pipe and I bolted the band clamp to the first mounting bolt. Ebay $40 shipped. I ordered a replacement for the CT70 clone.

Forward view of the muffler. It's a nice tight fit so no clamp is needed. The intake side of the muffler is 1 1/4". I been running this muffler on my CT70 clone for two years with no problem.

It's a Load Lord Rack for the XT225 off Ebay. Aluminum side plates and industrial grade polycarbonate (LEXAN) deck. Several people on XT225.com have this rack on their bikes.
I chose this one over the two steel XT225 ones on Ebay because I thought the aluminum would be easier to modify to fit the XF200.
I trimmed the arms and added tubing spacers to get it to fit. I needed longer bolts in back but was able to reuse the front bolts. I drilled different mounting holes.

No modification was made to the XF200 and the side covers fit just fine.
Might paint the aluminum flat black.

Added bonus for me. Using the original rear holes for tie downs when trailering.

Next mods are rejet, top box, and ???.

Oh. I forgot a bar end mirror. I can't adjust the stock mirrors to see behind me. Should arrive soon.

Looks good. You are REALLY going to want an Edge II tailight to complete the look. :D

I like the no decal look. How did you get the Q-Link logo off the side of the seat?

Barnone 11-04-2010 10:31 PM

FastDoc,
Thanks for the compliments.

I used brake cleaner for the seat.

Got some KTM decals for the tank and will install them as soon as I get a rear trunk so I can remove the tank bag.
:D

Where is the info/photos of the Edge II?

I like the silencer, and you did a great job modifying the XT225 luggage rack! :) I installed a DRC, Edge 2 tail light on my Zong several years ago; here is a link to my thread. ;)

I put KTM stickers on my Zong. It was a erzatz KTM but it sure was fun.

The aluminum and Lexan idea sure looks light, and I bet it's strong.

Love the stinger exhaust look! I hope it doesn't melt the side panels.

I think that bar end mirrors are a great idea, unless you plan on riding off-road.

some handguards and fairing/crash bobbins will add a little safety to your panels. edge tail tidy led indicators all round and possable disk conversion?, nice mods btw :)

Barnone 11-05-2010 08:40 AM

Seems to be as much clearance as with the stock muffler. That thing is heavy.

I don't really ride off road that much. Lots of gravel fire and logging roads riding on the XF200 and the XT225 but I take the ATV or little pit bike for the nasty stuff.

I plan to remove the air injection system as I think it adds unnecessary heat to the engine.

Spud :)

Thanks Spud, I'll check out your thread.
We had a little snow last night. Time to think about heading South. I'm trailering the XF200 and the CT70 clone to FL for winter riding there.

FastDoc 11-05-2010 11:46 AM

I'm going to want all the details on the air injection removal.

This is Q's version of the tumors that Spud removed. On Q it's hidden, but still there.

Also, did the brake cleaner damage or discolor the seat vinyl at all? Was the logo difficult to remove?

Barnone 11-05-2010 04:23 PM

I going to wait until I migrate to Florida to do the air injection removal since trips to town to get parts here in the sticks is a half hour drive and if you need something special it's a hour and a half. I think I saw the removal documented here or on mychinamoto.

Just spray a little of the brake parts cleaner on a shop rag and rub gently. The white comes right off and no damage to the seat.

Did a little more work on the rear rack. I dropped the rear down to decrease the angle and tucked it in a more in the front. I'll take some more photos when I get done adjusting it. It does seem plenty strong after I did a lean on it test. I probably put a hundred pounds on it.

So you like the larger JCW top box and it's not too big? I'll order one when I get back to Florida. Any expert advice on drilling the LEXAN from you aircraft mechanics?

Snow was coming down pretty good here but melting when it hit the ground. Had 3"-4" up on the Cherohala Skyway at 5,000'. The snow plow/salt truck was heading there this morning to get it off.

FastDoc 11-05-2010 04:27 PM

Thanks for the seat logo tip. Doc loathes snow. Hope we don't get any or at the most very little this year. Although, with the ATV and The Dirt Rat it might be fun.

You have the best of two worlds with your two addresses. :D

Rear Rack V1.1

Lowered the rear a bit and tucked in the front a little tighter.

Forgot to mention the Grip Puppies. Foam sleeve that slips over the stock grips. Good for reducing vibration but might be a reach problem for riders with small hands.
Also added a magnetic drain plug.

Thanks for mentioning the Grip Puppies, Bar. :) I have small hands, but I think I might try a pair. ;) Are the Grip Puppies very effective at reducing vibration? :?:

Spud :)
