To get right into it... I was always apprehensive about Chinese bikes and atv's, until i got an MFC (Motorized Fun Company) 50cc atv in a package deal with a yamaha Pw50 for my kids a few years back. It's been a pretty bulletproof machine. I ended up picking up a fairly trashed 2008 Gio Mini Hummer 110cc atv. Some new bearings and seals...a chain and it's movin around....which brings me to the main reason i started looking online and found this site.

I just picked up (for 2 bottles of jack daniels) a dirtbike for me. I originally thought it was a suzuki, but once i got on scene to look at it, i obviously found out otherwise. The seat says "JVS 150-ZR". From what i can find jvs was an ontario company that had bikes built in china and distributed in north america.

I can't get it to fire...but i need help identifying what this actually is....stamped on the jug, it says 196cm3. Which tells me it's a 200cc? Also, on the vin sticker is says made by Gincheng. Also the vin on the sticker is different from the one stamped on the neck.

I'll try to post some pictures...any help is greatly appreciated.

That's a nice looking motorcycle. :) The bike must have a 200cc engine. I would trust the VIN stamped on the frame, instead of the VIN sticker. What is the VIN? We should be able to determine the information you desire from the VIN. ;)

the sticker vin is: LJCYCLLA140330027

the stamped vin appears to be: LAAGERRA246040 although i'm not 100% on that because the sticker is covering the tophalf of each letter/number .

do you guys/gals have some way of figuring them out? or has someone made a vin checker? i'd love to get my little atv's decoded too.

Both VINs indicate manufacture in China in 2004. However, the rest of the VINs doesn't check out. :roll:

Here is the best way I can decipher the VIN LJCYCLLA140330027.

LJC = JINCHENG CORPORATION
Y = Off Road Bike
C = Fuel Stroke (Probably gasoline, which should be "A")
L = Displacement 175cc
L = Chain Drive
A = Model
1 = Check Digit
4 = Model Year (2004)
0 = Plant Location
330027 = Production Sequential Number

I appreciate all the help. So it looks like this bike is a Jincheng JC150Y.
Also rebadged as a Midwest JC150Y, and of course, the one I have....which appears to be the only one in existence the JVS 150-ZR.

The stamping on the jug, and the decoding of the VIN suggest a larger displacement than what the naming implies.

I'm thinking that the steel frame was made by JIALING Industrial, purchased by Jincheng and then made into the motorcycle. That's the only thing I can come up with as to why the 2 different VIN numbers.

While looking at the pictures of "all the other" JC150Y-ish bikes, I've found that some are electric start. mine is not. some have a bit different of a jug. on mine on the backside (facing rear wheel) there is cover / block-off plate for what looks like another intake, or exhaust.

In some of the pictures i've seen, this "port" is on the rear brake side, and has a steel tube attached to it, going up under the gas tank.

Any thoughts on what this might be?

Also, I can not for the life of me get this thing started by kicking it. The previous owner said it needed a "kicker spring" but wouldn't elaborate. Said he last had it running 2 years ago, and that was only by bump starting it. I haven't tried bumping yet...because the clutch cable is destroyed. But I put a new NGK plug in, and it has a beautiful bright blue spark. I'll probably take the carb off and clean it. then try bumping it.

Any thoughts on the "kicker spring"..

Is there a better spot that I should be moving these questions to?
