UH OH

wierd idle, sometimes it wants to idle at 3500 and other times purs like a kitten at 1.5. anyone had simlar experiences?

zapkin
Is your Choke on or off?... it will idle higher with the choke on. If your choke is off... this is not normal. Your throttle cable could be sticking or the cable could be routed incorrectly causing a {kink} and not letting it return correctly... The things you have mentioned are supposed to be taken care of by the selling dealer, prior to and when you pick up your vehicle.

Does the idle decrease when it warms up, or does it change randomly?

01-17-2008 09:52 AM

this happens with or without the choke engaged
it feels like something in the cable and I gonna check it
but it was fine when left dealer, then just sort of developed
to be honest I knew from reading forums that there would be some issues to resolve.

The cable will bind easily so reach down to the carb and pull the lever down.

A good dealer would have lubed it and made sure that it wasn't binding.

i honestly try to give other people a fine reputation to live up to.
thanks for help. will check cable.

Hey, I tried to give my "dealer" a chance too. He did work had and got me a title after 6 months, but for being a custom harley repair shop they didn't do a very good job with assembly.

Anyway things get missed and if you don't ask they probably won't show you either.

I had gone to reaching to the carb and pressing the lever down to make sure the choke is off after I have used it.

Possible air leak. If the cable checks out ok, check around the carb for a possible air leak where it mounts to the engine. I've been told you can spray wd40 around the carb and if there is a leak the engine will react to the spray. I've never done this, but I've heard others talk of doing it this way.

if i remember right zapkin, your bike is less than a week old. i would take it to the dealer before i did anything.

SamM 01-17-2008 09:42 PM

Oh yeah, your dealer will fix that right up for ya! Take it back! Just don't forget to report back what happens and what they tell you.

01-17-2008 09:43 PM

yeah i am going to do that very thing tomorrow.

SamM 01-17-2008 09:50 PM

The bike should have been setup correctly and tested out for you when you picked it up! Afterall, Shawn reported them as a very good American Lifan dealer, didn't he? Why is the basic setup so hard for these dealers to get right?

i think it will be okay.
