Hawk 250 rear brake.

Hello all!

New member here and I have a question. After searching the internet and this forum I haven't found any references to the problem that I have with the rear brake on my Hawk 250.

The bike is new, about forty miles on it, and the rear brake is almost useless! It appears to be adjusted properly but it barely slows the bike no matter how hard you push on the pedal.

The front brake works great so I'm not sure why the rear is so helpless!

Anyway, any help provided will be greatly appreciated.

Did you clean the brake rotors with brake cleaner yet? There's an oily film on the rotors that keep them from rusting during shipping.

Thank you for the reply,

I thought that might be the problem but when I felt the rotor it felt clean, but it still could have some silicone on it so I''ll try cleaning it off.

Do these brakes need a brake in cycle?

I would also remove the pads and clean them then scuff them up with sand paper to remove any oil on the surface. Rear brakes aren't the best but mine will lock up if i press too hard.

Yes, Cleaning them with Carb cleaner and then heating them up by riding with light pressure on the brake pedal made a huge difference.

You might want to add this to your setup thread as I found someone else had said in a review that they had problems with their front brake not working well, and no one had the answer.

Again, many thanks!
