bigger gas tank

anyone ever try a gy-5 tank on a gy-2 should be i think about a gallon bigger ,but hard to find specs . called lifan and they said it's a 3.2 gallon tank . i really don't think its that big . any gy-5 owner know how much it holds ? gy-2 is only 1.6

The GY5 tank is supposed to be 2.7 gallons. I haven't actually measured it but that's about right. I've ridden 250 km without fueling up.

OK i ordered a GY-5 tank 27.00 on ebay . guess i'll be the Guinea Pig for 27.00 bucks . Best i can tell should hold a extra gallon . i'll update as i figure it out .

My gy2 would have 2 gallons if completely empty.

I have an xr250 tank if you want me to measure it also.

Thanks katoranger . an xr looks like it could work . I'll have the GY-5 tank next week . I'll see how doable that is first . I also want to clean up the back of the bike . i think if i ditch the air filer box, I can move the battery off the side . Making a 12 month joy out of this ,Summer riding winter modding .

I had a dr350 tank on mine. It wasn't a very good fit, but worked.

The xr looks like a closer fit.

I see you caught the "modification bug," Racer! Indeed, modifying these motorcycles is a large part of the fun in owning them. ;) Please do post some photographs of the GY-5 fuel tank after it arrives. Like many others, I will enjoy watching you experiment with your Viva. :D

It's always nice to save $18, Racer! :) Will you please provide a link to that fuel tank? I can't find it listed on eBay. :)

The GY-5 tank is going to require commitment . before i know if it will work ,I'll have to cut off the rear gy-2 mount off the frame . the front mounting of the gy-5 tank needs to be lower then where the gy-2 tank mounted . some not so good pics uphttp://viewmorepics.myspace.com/inde...ageID=62639392

I prefer the appearance of the original fuel tank. :D I think the stock fuel tank looks very good without the fuel tank plastic. However, you could also experiment with trimming the fuel tank plastic. ;) Personally, I would not cut away the stock fuel tank mounting hardware. ;)

Spud :)
