Key to fixing a flat tire
 

I wish I was joking but I'll be gathering first hand experience fixing a flat on my hawk now that I have the obvious culprit removed from my knob by.

I've had flats from screws, nails etc... but never a key. It almost makes me think somebody was fu<kin with me... a flat key wedged at that angle is suspicious...or maybe I am paranoid.

One question for the group, do you all think the tire is safe to continue using at "hawk speed" riding?

only when the sidewall is damaged do tires become unsafe due to punctures.

your tire is fine to keep using though. I once got a nail in a tubless tire on my V45 Sabre. the dealer did not have a tire replacement in stock, so he put a tube in it and I rode for thousands of miles like that. your situation is no different. ride it like ya stole it! :tup:

I got a flat tire on my tubed bike the very first day I rode it on the street. A roofing nail. Ordered my tire spoons and a new tube and watched YouTube videos until the spoons and tube arrived. It was a fun experience and you learn a lot fixing the tire. I can easily see how every tire/tube fix in the future will get easier and easier as you learn a system.

As for the puncture if the tire is tubeless you can use a tire plug kit same as a car tire, just a few bucks from the auto store or wall-mart.
If tube you can get away with a bicycle tube repair kit for quite a while, you may want to order a new tube, just in case.

The angle of the key is only possible in two ways.
1.you were riding off road and had the misfortune of running over the key in the dirt.:doh:

2.someone propped it up under your knob to send you a message.>:

If it's your rear tire, I would bet on the 2nd one as a sure thing.>:(

That's what I was thinking, because what are the odds the key would be lined up just right like that? Anything is possible, but. . .

The only issue with it possibly being intentional is who the heck would use a key? I would chalk it up to being a fluke accident.

I got a flat on my truck similar and only thing I could think was my front tire kicked it up to be run over with my rear.

Before this, keys would be low on my list of things to worry about puncturing my tires, but I guess you learn something new every day. :D

Last year I had a piece of plastic puncture my truck tire. The tire man brought it out to me saying he'd never seen that before.

I highly doubt this is sabotage....road debris gets kicked up at all sorts of strange angles. A key is likely the last thing a vandal would use to pop a tire imo.

Do yourself a favor and put a real tube in it. Historically, stock CB tubes come from condom factories. You'll be amazed at how thin it is............
