Spark plug confusion

I'm confused which spark plug works on a Hawk 250. I bought them both from Hawk250.com. One of the plugs is a dpr8eix-9 (H6Y2) with a metal top screwed on top. Plus the other one is a dr8eix (h5y1) without a top just threads. So which one is the correct plug for the bike? By the way, can't test it cuz I don't have the bike yet. One box says 2202. The one with the metal top, and the other box says 6681 the one with just threads. Which one can I use once I get a Hawk!

The DPR8EIX9 mainly differs from the DR8EIX in 2 regards.
The P in the plug code stands for a projected electrode. If you look at your picture you will notice that the ceramic and tip stick out further from the threaded body a little bit - usually around 1 to 2mm out from the threaded body of the plug. This puts the spark closer to the center of the combustion chamber, which generally means a more efficient combustion. The exposed electrode and tip often tend to remain cleaner due to being more exposed. This also means that the plug will act just a tiny bit hotter than a standard plug of the same temp rating. That projection can also sometimes be a problem for some engines, potentially interfering with piston tops and valves. The 9 at the end of the code denotes a preset gap in mm. This case it would be 0.9mm, aka .036". A much wider gap than is recommended for a standard copper plug on these engines, but with an iridium plug it may work well. I have an Iridium Denso plug gapped to .8mm, aka .032" and it runs without a miss. As far as the ends of the plug, if that current cap will not unscrew, it means you need to change to a different plug wire end. The DR8EIX plug without the cap, on the other hand, will work perfectly as is with no other changes needed. |
I run the DPR8EIX-9 in my TT250 and it seems to work great, you just have to unscrew the cap.
