Replacement Brake Pads
 

Does anyone know where to get replacement brake pads for the Hawk? I don't see them on the RPS parts site and I don't believe that the TT250's work...or do they?

You've gone through your stock brake pads already?

Close but not quite yet. Probably have 30% remaining. It's on the list of things I want to do during the winter/off season. Plus, I'm curious.

Has anyone changed their brake fluid, any recommendations?

Mag 1 DOT4 is one of my favorite brake fluids, only a few fluids have similar or better specs and those cost a premium (like "Amsoil"). I think it was only $3 a quart of Mag 1 DOT4 last time I got a case (I do a lot of work on random vehicles around here... might as well get a case of the things I use every few days :hehe: )

But any name brand DOT4 fluid will work nice in your brake lines

Well yeah! If I only had 30% left, I reckon I'd be looking for new ones too. If you pull the old pads out, you can compare with new ones online. Are you that hard on brakes, or was the lining material that poor?

I've subscribed to this thread as I also want to know. Humanbeing has provided some pretty solid inforamtion, but I think we are all looking for a guy to chime in with "I ordered a Honda, Kawasaki....... 19XX set of brake pads and they are direct bolt in." type of answer. People feel more confident with an easability of ordering. I think honestly they should stamp the calipers and bearings on the China bikes with a part model #. We could name the bike 200 different names, but a simple stamped number would make it easy to find online that way. They could provide a manual with detailed part #'s instead if they wanted to keep costs down.

Are the part numbers stamped into the pad back plate?

Well I bought my hawk second hand and the previous owner did not care for her. So most of my thread "Jet321's Hawk 250" was getting it back to a reliable state. So as I've combed over the bike I've noticed things, the pads are pretty worn, I looked at them again and there's about 30-40% left.

I haven't taken the calipers apart, but I will in about a month or so when it gets cold and I can't ride. I'll keep you guys updated, you'll know when I know!

How many 32nd do you have left? Most motorcycle pads are only 4/32 new.

This parts problem of yours has been roaming around in my brain until someone on here mentioned how nice the people were at APSC. So I found their phone number and checked - yes they have brake pads and a lot of other parts for Hawks. Telephone # is 731 632 3222. They are located in Adamsville, Tennessee.

Thank you. I am on the fence about buying a Hawk and wear parts were a concern of mine.

Also, many Hondoid parts are readily available on Amazon and EBay. Just type in something generic like "Chinese dirt bike brake parts" and a bunch of stuff comes up.
