Beijing Going Motorcycle Free?
Just watched a really good Chinese film last night, "Beijing Bicycle" that was made in 2005. The film takes place mostly on the streets of Beijing and all i saw were cars and bicycles. In only 1 scene did i see a motorized bike- an old guy on a moped in heavy traffic of bicycles.
I saw maybe several hundred bicycles of all sorts and lots of cars. What's going on- are they trying to hinder street criminals from making fast getaways?? Are they going green- no 2 smokes  ? Is this just temporary in advance of the olympics? What will 1000 motorcycle factories do if China outlaws 2 wheeled motor vehicles entirely?? :? |
I think they will probably depend on their monstrous export numbers to sustain their momentum
I did remember a posted pic of the massive motorcycle confiscation in China! Maybe they did a propaganda review of the western motorcycle films...Thanks Peter Fonda, Marlon Brando and Steve McQueen :D Tigertamer |
Major Cities in China Banning Motorcycles
At least in the case of Guangzhou downtown motorcycles have been banned from the streets. Subject to confiscation by the authorities by any violators as of 2007.

I wonder what they're going to do with all those bikes, I hope they don't destroy them :(

This is what happens in a socialist nation. The power that be decides what you can and can't do. You have to take it lying down, without recourse.

Reminds me of Ontario's stance on modified cars

Is Ontario just saying "no" to NO?
If you ever drive in VA, be sure to leave you radar detectors home. If they see it in your car, they'll stop you and seize it on the spot. |

Harley Wants in on China
170 major cities in China have motorcycle bans of restrictions according to this article. The reason, to make the roads safe for cars? Cagers are taking over the roads in town...sound familiar??
On the plus side. One complaint is that the current motorcycles available are too underpowered to flow with the faster car traffic safely. So, we should see many more bikes over 200cc in the near future to meet the need for faster safer bikes. http://www.theledger.com/apps/pbcs.d...plate=printart |
Are they still alowed on country roads?

Apparently, I asked some Chinese folk, and you can ride in the country.
The reason that bikes in the inner city are banned is because... 1 they are noisy. 2 apparently Chinese suck at negotiating trafic and have alot of accidents 3 THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT SAID SO!!! |

I mean, is it not legal for an individual to build a car for the purpose of racing on a track? The position that all performance parts are being used to race on the street is a bit....ummmm, well....loony. :) |
