Too K&N or not to K&N...

So I bought this https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B000E5S38C/..._uwYSEb54NEN1J 33-2238 K&N for my TT250 and am less then impressed. The filter area is much smaller then the factory filter, 30% smaller in fact. I know K&N filters flow better then stock ones but how much better? I am curious if there is any benefit with the filter size being more restrictive especially because the K&N requires moding/tweeking just to make it work.

Has anyone compared stock with this baby K&N? Is there noticable improvements?

I don't know about that K&N but I know what I Like........

and I like your avatar!!

Lol thanks... I got it from a GW250 forum back in the day and kept using it on all motorcycle forums after that, they had tons of avatars to choose from but there's something classy about a pin-up on a bike.

I ran the k&n and stock paper filter back to back, and then modified the stock filter with a foam panel. K&n required no change in jet size nor felt any different from the stock filter. My home made foam filter on the other hand did give a slight improvement over stock.

I haven't ever seen a GW250 with a back tire that big. She must have geared is down a bit.

Thanks Megadan, thats kinda what I figured, a normal K&N iprobably only has about a 30% increase in flow to stock and this one being 30% more restrictive ends in a wash.

Lol obviously that GW has been seriously chopped!

Not sure that I would want to run a K&N... The improvement in flow comes partially from a decrease in filtration. There's a reason that dirt bikes and enduros don't come with them from the factory, and I don't think it's cost. I'd use a uni filter with oil, that's basically what Honda uses with ATVs, and I trust that that solution will keep the dust out.

I've run lots of K&N's on both bikes and cars, for one reason only. Serviceability. It's a quality product and can be cleaned and oiled. I never expect any real power gains out of an air cleaner. If it makes it sound throatier, cool.
That said, yes, the Rhino air cleaner was true garbage and hit the trash can immediately. If my pod filter helped performance, great. Other than that, I knew it was getting clean air.
