My Hawk still has whatever they put in when they hammered it together, but I did a lot of tuning and suspension work on my DR-650. I found the easiest way to get a really nice ride was to buy a length of Schedule 80 PVC pipe, and start cutting hunks off it. Schedule 80 PVC is dark grey in color, and has nearly twice the wall thickness of the white schedule 40 you can get at the big box stores. You'll need to let the Google be your guide to find a plumbing supply house near you that has schedule 80 PVC in stock. I used a 1" pipe diameter for the DR, but I think with the Hawk being smaller and lighter it would probably use 3/4" or maybe even as small as 1/2". I would carefully measure a couple lengths out (start with something like 2", 2-1/2", 3") and then just put them in and go for a rip. It's super easy to get the fork caps off, just loosen the triple clamp bolt, and unscrew it, so changing out your lengths for testing shouldn't be any problem. Just make sure when you do your testing, you give it an honest shake for the riding you're going to be doing the most. Hope this helps!
