Coolster 50 transmission
 
Just bought a coolster 50 for my boy to learn how to ride. Has the auto transmission, it has already gone out. Any suggestions for repair?

I do not believe its capable for the auto transmission to 'go out'??? Just to clarify are you speaking of the fully auto with no gear changes or the semi auto that has gear changes but no clutch? The reason I say the auto transmission can't 'go out' is because it basically has no parts to fail. It is simply direct drive gearing and its geared in a manner that puts very little torque or stress on the gears.

Saying the semi auto has no clutch is also incorrect. It just doesn't have a hand operated clutch. The clutch operation is built into the gear selector. As you apply slight pressure to the gear selector it engages the clutch just before you switch the gears.

Well I am going to take all the above back. I did a quick research for you on the Coolster 50cc and it appears it does not have the Honda horizontal clone 49cc engine I am familiar with and was referring to in my above posts. It does appear that it has a rope pull start 2 stroke 49cc engine and I am guessing it has a torque converter type transmission. Still not actual transmission but that is just words. If that is the case the torque converters are very inexpensive and very easy to install/switch out.

That's the one. When you give it gas, the "transmission" just makes grinding noises. Should be pretty easy to take apart and see what's up. Sure wish it had the transmission like his brothers tao 110.

Remove the cover on the left hand side, same side as the chain and you should be able to see the fail point. If the shaft out of the side of the engine is still turning then your all good. Simply replace the failed component or the torque converter. Hopefully its as simple as a broken belt.

By the way they make high performance torque converters that can really make that bike scream. Not that you wan't that for your young son. Just sayin for maybe down the road when he has little more experience. Check out the many YouTube videos.

Found my problem. The c clip that holds the sprocket on fell off somewhere. Hopefully a trip to lowest or home depot will yield one.

Excellent! Easy fix I hope if you can find the clip. If you have the tools maybe drill through and insert a cotter pin.

The cotter pin and washer are my next step if this clip falls off.
