Bad news / good news V-Raptor 250

At the 13000 km service, the Skyteam V- Raptor showed significant metal particles in the engine oil. At 13200 Km engine vibes increased beyond ignoring it.

The engine isn´t totaled yet and still ran good with normal performance. A repair might be possible with considerable but not overwhelming effort.
(Bearings and possibly a new crankshaft.)

The Season is just beginning and i do not want to start with an engine overhaul. Sometime in fall will be soon enough.

So i bought a new Engine.

The kit included: ready to install Motor plus carburator, CDI unit, regulator/rectifier, ignition coil. (just like Loncin deliveres it to the production line.) so i have some spares for future use.

Mess, still to clean up

Still have to do the shakedown ride, but the engine runs good and smoth already.

I will report about diagnosis and repair of the "old" engine in time.

aah... cost factor was 690€ for the complete kit.

Will be interesting to see where the metal bits are coming from. Always nice to have spare parts.

sorry but interested in this issue

so I am not the only one experiencing problems with this Loncin engine and I am still far from those kms, surely lot less than 10000.............although I have squeezed this little bike far more than it can stand and "pimped" it with many modifications :hehe:
although I got myself a new bike in the meantime, I am still looking for a new/decently used complete engine to fix my Raptor, I wanna keep it.............but i'll NEVER EVER spend that money :ohno:
so far I found good prices on chinese sites but they raise immediately 2-3 times when considering shipping expenses plus custom taxes
so far I have not found some european site or shop or user that can get me an engine
many can ship parts but I don't want my mechanic to spend work time (and charge it) on a blocked engine >:(

Well... "curiosity killed the cat"...and it shurely kills me. So i will open up that engine within the next days.

I wanna know too.

Some bets on the damage ?

Does this mean you haven't pulled the head and barrel to see how bad the damage is? I'm guessing you stuck a piston. If that is all it is, a new piston with rings costs about $50.00 here. It is rare for the bore to be damaged. Just the piston. You would have to lightly hone the bore assuming it is still good, in order to seat the new rings. And get the broken piston pieces out of the crank case, but the whole deal is not that difficult to do. Now if the rod is bent, or the lower end bearings are bad, that's another story...ARH

I think he said around 1000 euros, with shipping and duty to get into eurozone.

Heck, if my wife's V-Raptor develops such "disease" too, I'm splitting that sucker and repairing it. Like the Doc says - no way, I'm paying 600-700 eur. for a new engine...

my01 03-21-2017 06:56 PM

oh Jürgen...
that´s a pitty with your bike/engine.
But I know... it´s alway the same...
Once I had a headgasket failure at my car, I have to make the same decision.
The repair costs me 2,5 k€, but since then, no more engine damage. That has been at 120.000 km . Now i have 200.000 km on the car...and is still running smooth and good.

I wish you the best and am looking forward, what the reason for the damage was..

Krasi_BG 03-27-2017 03:25 AM

So, do we have a diagnosis yet?
