Minibikes lead me here
Mainly just looking to learn what the cheapest fastest minibike is out there and not break the bank. Groms with engine swap are too expensive for me. Learning to do the maintenance myself and possibly learn some mods and misc stuff here as well.

Welcome! The lowest cost route is to purchase a Chinese Grom clone which I call GLV (Grom Like Vehicle) and a 140, 160, or 190 engine and swap the engine yourself. Kronik Racing in Simi Valley, Cal. sell engines, and the parts to streamline the swap. They have a few customers who have converted the Vader 125 to 190cc engine. Another place is T-Bolt USA who are pit bike specialists, but most if not all the same applies to the GLVs. The other route is to wait until Pitster Pro releases their 190cc mini beast. The downside is based on MSRP, it will cost you more $ and you won't have the stock 125cc engine to recoup more $. The upside is they have done all the work for you and it does not cost much more that buying a bike and Pitster's crate engine, although like I wrote, you won't have the stock engine to sell. I know Pitster generally sells lower than MSRP, so it might be worth it to wait and look into it.

Best bang for the buck would probably be a used bike with problems bought cheap ,then swap in a bigger engine .

The cheapest Grom clone (GLV), would be the TaoTao Hellcat. There are several dealerships that offer them. Choose your dealership wisely. The Hellcat looks like decent quality. Unfortunately, my Hellcat arrived in bad shape and I’m still dealing with it. I have dealt with Q9 Powersports, for a Hawk 250, and they treated me right.

Thanks for the replies.

Venom is Boom/Baodiao who sell the Vader in a couple models with slight differences and I believe a model that isn't called a Vader. Venom is a mail-order retailer who renames them. Venom themselves are known as a good mail-order outfit, but it sounds like they are wholesalers to dealers as evidenced by your local dealer having them in their shop.

I just ordered mine and excited!! but I ordered from KronikRacing.com because I have heard only good reviews, other members mentioned them here plus the owner Pete was very prompt and helpful in replying to me...but time shall tell if it ships cross country to the East Coast well or not!! Let us know if you bought that one and how it's going cuz we want to know...Me?--I was dying trying to decide between a Classic, good looking CT70 clone IceBear Champion I found for $1250 or less delivered after looking on every site and the Grom Clone Boom Vaders...I think I went with the Vader because it is more modern and slightly bigger/higher top speed but I KNOW part of me will always regret not ordering the CT70!! But oh well...this is supposed to be all for fun so fun is what I ordered and what I will have either way |
