New Year.. new... throttle cable?
 

How else to ring in the New Year but with a nice long ride up to Big Levels Shendandoah National Park.. was a great ride.. until.. about 5 miles to the house my son hits me over the intercom to tell me something happened to the throttle on the Brozz. i swing a u-turn and find him on the side of the road and look at the throttle only to find it free-spinning! Ugh.. i then attempt to remove the 2 throttle assembly screws with the chintzy phillips head in the tool kit and its a no-bueno, they r stuck good.. i then spin the adjuster out as far as i can to have it disconnect and i find the throttle cable broken at the end.. ugh again!
Luckily i was able to ride his bike back home carefully using a pair of plier while tugging on the throttle cable.. not recommended, but it worked..
Ordered the new cable.. so all in all.. the stock cable lasted close to 3 years.. never had that happen before on another bike but happy it wasn't a show-stopper

My throttle cable stuck wide open on the interstate a few months back.
After hitting the kill switch and pulling into the emergency lane, I was able to unstick the cable and continue home.

Tack on sheared off rear sprocket studs for the new year lol.. had that fun time today, luckily was able to jimmy rig an allen key to hold the sprocket in place to ride home. Ordered replacement OEM Honda studs (90128-KE2-940) from the local dealer.. hopefully the stock nuts work with them otherwise ill be off to Lowes for that... hopefully thats the end of the drama for the Brozz and then back to business as usual

So i ordered 4 Honda OEM hub nuts and should get them this week but now my son is paranoid that the bike is past its expiration date and is trying to talk me into selling the Brozz to get a Jap variant instead... i tried reassuring him that the drama should be over once we pass this issue but could use some reassuring myself.. i know these bikes with CG engines are 3rd world proven but aside from engine and trans, is everything else going to slowly start breaking? For reference its a 2020 Brozz that was purchased in Nov 2020 so slightly past the 2 year mark and 4000 miles and other than replacing bits due to falls, the only parts that have failed to date have been the horn, right rear turn signal, throttle cable and now these hub bolts. Well for the money the options are restore a busted old Japanese bike or buy a new Chonda bike...both will break down over time with use.

Ironically I had to use new China parts to rescue an old Honda Xl185.

Possibly suggest to the young fella that you'd be happy to work towards a different country of manufacture Motorcycle if he's happy to pay the other half...

I hear you. im fairly certain that it'll be back to business as usual once i get her back on the road again.. but yea, thats what i was thinking as well.. if he really wants one then we'll have to sell the Brozz and he'll have to make up the difference which would not be insignificant thats for sure

I think I've got another CDI unit going bad on me, sure feels like the last time. Absolute bitch to start when warm, won't idle below 4k

Whatever breaks on a Chinese bike, replacing it isn't going to break the bank. You can even get a new engine for $500! The whole thing!

My buddy had a CanAm 125 back in the day (~1972). OOooo, what fun! We were fooling around on it and the thing blew up (cracked piston, blown rings). And that was one of the best bikes out there at the time. Winning lots of races in it's day, and pretty durable. Small engines break. You fix or replace them. No biggy!

A $500 fresh start, in 2023 is pretty amazing!

Considering people are spending more to modify brand new crf300l with parts that would cost about a whole china bike to make it a "better bike" is all you really need to know. A used KLX250 or 300 might be a better choice alternatively wise....

but the thing is if the China bike breaks beyond hope you can just use it for a parts on other china bikes to some extent....

The engine is never an issue on these bikes, it's the little stuff. Most of it is cheap and easy to replace. If he thinks 2 years is "past it's expiration" then my bike should have turned to dust long ago, along with several members here.

What he wants is a "cool" bike.

having a bike is cooler than not having a bike...

New OEM Honda sprocket bolts are on... one less thing to hopefully ever have to worry about!

Except chain tension, maybe a little more loose can help….thinking out loud…

I might as well use this thread as a maintenance expectation around 4500 miles:
- just ordered front and rear brake pads, they are both around 50% used but my son's been complaining about the rear brake stopping power being low for awhile
