Horizontal Engine Codes
OK. I am looking for a horizontal clone clone engine for a project with these specs:
90-110cc Kick start Semi-auto 4 speed N-1-2-3-4 pattern As I peruse on-line the offerings, I see a lot of contradictions in listings, like in one place saying it's a 4-speed pit bike engine while in the specs it says R-1-2-3 Or seeing a clutch lever on the case when it says semi- auto So how can I be sure an engine has what I want? Do the numbers stamped below the sprocket have a decipher code? |
Supposedly, only the engine displacement and bore size can be deciphered from the engine VIN...but.... The Chinese engine manufacturers take great liberties when branding their engines. They aren't always what they say they are.

A case in point...
I have an engine here with the engine VIN - TZH152FMH - which, according to the chart above, has a 52mm bore and 110cc displacement. I know the stroke is 49.5mm, and when the formula is applied, here is the result. 5.2 x 5.2 x 4.95 x .7854 = 105.12cc displacement The thing is, the cylinder has a 90cc casting on it, and when I removed the head, I found that the bore size was only 47mm, not 52mm, as the engine VIN states. Applying the formula to that number - 4.7 x 4.7 x 4.95 x .7854 = 85.87cc displacement As I said above, they are not always what they say they are. |
